Default Window crank or regulator?

Hello, all!

I did do a search on this, and I got nothin'.

I'm looking to fix my '98 Civic CX up so I can sell, and the driver's window has been wonky for a while. It behaves as though the little teeth on the manual window crank are stripped...up to about a third up, it will raise the window, but when the pressure becomes a little greater it just spins without doing anything. I haven't fixed it yet because I can cram the window up with my hand if things get desperate.

My question is, does this indeed sound like I need a new crank, or a new regulator? This is probably a big DUH, but I'm the opposite of a mechanic. I don't really know what the regulator does vs. the crank, and want to be sure which part I need before I buy.

Thanks in advance for your help, and may the answers help some other anti-mechanic in search of the same answer!

Maia
