Default Will my Cx ever be as good as an SI?

Ok, I know some of the differences between a CX and an Si. The engine is different (VTEC), there are 4 wheel disk brakes on Si's, Power steering, etc. But sometimes I see parts for cars like exhausts or turbo kits that'll say, "for EX or higher" or something like that. I'd hate to be stuck with an unupgradeable car. Can anybody tell me the exact or at least more specific differences? Thanks a lot.

just do a swap. or change over all those si things that you want. then you will be better and your insurance will be less cause it is a cx which econo box.

One advantage to a Cx over an Si is weight. The Cx models weigh less. I have one, but ditched the 78hp motor for an Integra GSR motor. No power steering, A/C, or rear disc brakes, but it's fast!!! You can always put in GSR disc brakes as an upgrade. The sky is the limit with your Cx

Damn straight. I think Honda designed the CX to be a racecar

If you see a company specifying an exhaust for EX and not CX, it's because the EX has the catalytic converter under the car and the CX has the cat built into the exhaust manifold. When it comes to stuff like that, the company just has to cover themselves so someone doesn't buy an exhaust that's "for Civics" just to find out it doesn't fit... So they specify.

You're car is by far unupgradeable. What year is it? I'll guess it's a 92-95? If so any B series motor will drop right in and plug right up... and if it's a 92, it's already wired for VTEC... easy!!

I believe the CX is like 248lbs lighter than the SI, No sunroof, No electrical BS, PS AC. and MO no PS has better steering response than a car with PS.

Thanks for the feedback so far, I guess I should have been more specific. I have a 99 Honda Civic CX, no PS, no sunroof, no PDL, PW, stuff like that, It does have AC, installed an alarm, installed a stereo.
Also every time I hear about a hooked up car, be it in magazines, through friends, or on T.V. it's always an Si. I rarely see a nice CX, DX, or LX, out there.

**** man, I used to drive '92 SI. Wrecked it. Now I'm using it as the donor car for my $500 92 CX. I may miss the moonroof and power mirrors, but screw it , its 250 lbs lighter to start.

Anything extra that came on a SI you can put on the CX (except maybe the moonroof, PIA I'd imagine). I'm using everything from the engine to the tilt steering.

Build your CX. I'm kinda glad I have my CX.

My first Honda was a CX. I thought it was cool and all owning a hatch but once I found out about the Si and all the features it came with I was hooked and determined to buy an Si. A year later I finally scroundrled up enough money to purchase an Si. I love it. It might be heavier and what not but I don't race it professionally or on the street. I just have it for show and to get me around.

You have a 99 hatch.....they only made a CX and DX. So every hatch like yours, 96-00 (EK), that looks good and is crazy fast, is obviously not an SI. Maybe a SI motor swap, but......

......as mentioned before, CX means sky is the limit. Everything is made for your car.....interior/exterior/engine swaps/brake swaps/....many conversions, etc......

man your stock motor really isn't all that bad. I believe both the cx's and dx's for that year came with the d16y7. Talk to "RiceyMcricerton" on this board about his boosted y7 puttin down some good numbers

Yup. You can boost a y7 and run decent times. I love mine. There are some things that you have to change over to get them to do a good job, but you can mod things pretty cheap and easily. First I would pick up a y8 tranny and a y8 intake manifold if you plan on building the Y7.

Yeah I have a little "CX" as well. Of course thats what I wanted so I could throw in my B18c and turbo in it. CX's are alot cheaper than Si's and they dont weigh near as much.
