Icon3 Will a distributor affect my Vtec?

Okay so I have plenty of oil, new spark plugs, and have even replaced the Vtec solenoid, but my Vtec is still "hit or miss". Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. My check engine light has been on for a while but never gave me problems. I just went to a trusted mechanic and when he hooked up to the Si he said that he was getting distributor codes. If my distributor is acting up, will this cause Vtec to not kick in? Other than the Vtec, car runs perfectly fine, doesn't lag or anything.

check engine means limp mode, and I believe Vtec fails in this mode. And also if not the dizzy controls the firing at the spark plugs if its not working properly the plugs won't fire correctly. missfire
