will d16y8 auto ecu work for a manual car??

i have a 96 civic hatch. my motor just recently blew and i put the d16y8 in but i have my old d16y7 ecu still in it. the car i bought the motor out of was an auto and i put my 5 speed tranny on it. i was wondering if i could use the ecu out of the old car on mine. even though it was an auto. i would hate to buy another ecu and find out that i could have used the one that i already have.

the soL that could 02-21-2006 10:30 AM

yes, but you'll get a code.

I dont think it'll work, plug and play, wise.... because of the fact one was meant for auto and the motor you have now is not an auto... that's not even mentioning the fact that you know have vtec... which you may not of had in your old motor/ecu.

EDIT: you probably won't get the best out of the y8.

No, the ecu for automatic and manual are different. I have the P2P ecu if you want to buy it. It is the one for a d16y8 manual

Auto ECU's use the 4th connector that is empty on manual ECU's - no worry on plug-n-play here.

You'll get a code for a lock-up solenoid that is present in auto tranny's

You'll probably get a FTP code since all Y8 ECU's look for its input, but not all 6th gen Civic's came equipped with one.

Y7 ECU has no clue about VTEC, implying it doesn't have fuel and ignition values for it.

The only good thing - the IACV. Auto Y8's used the same style IACV as all Y7's, so you shouldn't have to re-pin anything with respect to that.

Your choice to use it or not. I'd try it if just to get around for a day or two...but that'd be about it.
