Will a D15B be a direct bolt in replacement for a D16Y7?

Will a D15B be a direct bolt in replacement for a D16Y7?
Hello, I have a 96 Civic LX (D16Y7) that has blown a HG for the 2nd time. I want to replace the engine with either a used JDM motor or a remanufactured motor. It seems like most of the JDM imported motors are the D15B type. Can the D15B long block be swapped in using all necessary parts from my old engine and function just like stock and pass smog? I don't want to jerry rig or anything like that. I don't care that it's a different size internally, I just want to know if all the sensors and accessories bolt up like stock. Also, I see many different D15B versions, will any work as long as I use my engine's manifolds and accessories? This is a daily driver commuter car and I just want an engine that will last another 300k. (the current engine is at 326K mi)
Another option as I mentioned is a remanufactured engine is another option I am considering. Is there any issues with going that route? It doesn't seem to be too much more expensive, but we'll see.
Thanks,

You would have to see your local ref and/or smog laws about it being legal but for the most part you should be able to swap the engine one for one and reuse your existing manifolds. In some instances depending on OBD you may need to transplant certain components from your existing engine to utilize certain sensors that might be required for your original ECU. Nothing drastic or to be worried about.

Thanks for the quick replies!
This is one of the D15Bs I was looking at. It appears to be the closest match to what I'm replacing.

I can reuse everything from my old motor if necessary. i.e. distributor, intake, exhaust manifold, belt driven accessories, etc. From what I was reading from search results, I didn't get a complete answer. It seemed like people were talking about OBD1 and 2 versions etc. But if I use all of my old sensors and manifolds, I shouldn't have to worry about that right?
Thanks for all the help. I'm a quite a bit more versed with Toyota engines than Honda. I got this car for free from my brother and want to use it for now. Eventually it will be given to my brother's son so I want to fix it back to stock as completely as possible.

Ok, so I bought an engine from a local importer. They require the front and rear main seal, water pump, etc to be replaced in order to not void warranty.
Does anyone know if I can order parts for the D16Y7 (i.e. 96 civic) and they will fit or do I need to input a different car model?

Someone who has experience might chime in better but I'd take them out and to the dealer and see if they match up perfect.

-Rear main seal
-Front main seal (oil pump seal?)
-water pump
-valve cover gasket
-oil pan gasket

If it looks like a Y7 (same upward facing throttle body), then all those parts will be the same. The only differences will be inside the block and possibly the timing belt.

It's the 103 hp D15B non vtec, so from what I've been told is the same parts as the D15B7 when it comes to timing belt. I would suspect it would be the same for the seals too. You can count the teeth on the timing belt that will be a lot more definitive. As the different D's seem to have different tooth counts.
Do anyone know if I can use all the timing components (cam and crank pulley, tensioner and water pump) from the D16 and keep the 104 tooth belt?
I ask this instead of of finding the 103 tooth belt because I plan to give this car away to my nephew and would like to prevent any parts headaches if he ever has it serviced by a shop.

The VX 92-95 D15Z1 belt has 103 teeth. You may want to check out this thread as well, it's for the vtec version but I believe a lot of it will cross over

Shoot, I hope the crank pulley is the same diameter. I think there's a sensor on it that I'll need to swap over and that sensor doesn't exist on the D15B. Unless the reluctor ring is not a part of the crank timing pulley, then I'll be ok, but shoot I hope this doesn't turn into a big ordeal.. I'll know more when I have the old engine out.

Well, it turns out the crank timing pulley from the D16y7 is exactly the same tooth count and clocking as the D15B pulley but with the toothed reluctor. Since it all fits, I'm going to try running with the CFK sensor.
Another quick question. The D16y7 has an actual harmonic balancer but the D15B just has a solid pulley. Which one would you use?

solid pulley? Doubt it, my d15z7 was a little bit different, I think it was the ac belt that was a little smaller than the alternator but the crank pulley was the same.
Yes the the teeth count is the same, the only thing different would be that it has those extra gears for the ckf sensor.

Yep, I'm certain of it. The pulley is solid without any means of dampening unless it's a fluid type damper which I highly doubt. Besides the mass on it isn't really large enough to house a fluid type damper. The accessory pulley surfaces appear to be the same diameters for both the dampened one and solid. Eh, I'll probably just put the dampened one on.

Ok, i'm nearing swap completion and have run into a small snag. Since the deck height of the D15B appears to be shorter than the D16Y7 (shorter timing belt), the power steering bracket top hole doesn't line up. Any trick for this? Is there a D15B bracket that will work. Otherwise I'm just going to grind a slot into that top hole.

Hmm, ok. Maybe I'll have to take a closer look. It was a little tight to see because I installed the engine already and didn't put that bracket on first. When I when to put it on, it felt like the holes didn't line up, but I could be wrong.

I know this advice doesn't matter now but there is a 96-00 JDM D16A non-VTEC that is the same as the D16Y7 this would have been the motor to go with.
Your D15B didn't come with the PS pump and bracket? Maybe your importer can hook you up. All the swaps I have seen come with just about everything still attached to the motor.
Do the CFK bypass trick. It takes 2 seconds.
