Will this catback improve gas mileage?
It was suggested by some in this forum to look into a catback system to improve MPG's. How's this system? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...le:us

The only REAL way to improve your gas mileage is to reduce how much air/ fuel is going into your engine. I find it hard to believe that a catback would improve your gas mileage significantly, but maybe 2-3 mpg. But i doubt that.

If you simply want to improve mileage for economy's sake, this isn't really the way to do it. Consider this:
The cost of the exhaust is $275, and let's assume that you gain an average of 2 MPG from it. Lets also assume that you drive 12,000 miles per year and currently achieve 30 MPG.
12,000 miles per year/30 MPG = 400 gallons of fuel annually (before cat-back)
12,000 miles per year/32 MPG = 375 gallons of fuel annually (after cat-back)
25 gallons of fuel x $2.75 per gallon works out to a savings of $68.75 per year. It would therefore take you 4 years before simply breaking-even on the cost of the exhaust.

With bigger exhaust piping you usually get worst gas mileage. I bought my exhaust once off ebay. It looked nice & sounded pretty damn good but you have to be careful still. Sometimes they don't fit just right. the welds are shitty alot of times & you get leaks. The flanges don't seal correct. Just be careful. You can always get an exhaust made to. There cheap. Tubing is cheap & labor to someone that knows isn't bad. Buy a universal fart can, then get the piping done. If you go crush bends (ok, but mandel is best but pricy) you'll still gain some hp's & sound for cheap.

Also be careful w/ cali laws. DB law is 94.5 or 95 I think. I know mine was 93 & just passed. @ one time I had a 115db exhaust. That was fun trying to get that passed the fuzz.
