Default will car run without ckp sensor? obd2?

sup guys, i'm in the process of doing a swap, putting an obd1 jdm d15b into a 96 civic ex, i notice the d1678 has a sensor going near the oil pump (crank position) and the jdm motor does not because its obd1, i'm sure a code with throw because this is not hooked up, but is the sensor necessary for the engine to start? can i trick the sensor? can i use my old y8 oil pump or whatever i need to put the sensor on the y8 if it won't start?
