Default Will 17 inch wheels rub?

Im on 14 inch wheels right now, but I want a bigger wheel so I can have low profile tires for better performance after I put my coilovers on. (Low pro tires for 14inch wheels are mainly track tires).

So I'm looking at one pair of wheels right now that are 17x7.5 with an offset of +40. Assuming tires are about 205/40 17, will they rub? Will they require camber and fender rolling?

It's an ek coupe (96). Primarily a daily driver, but I autocross on occasion.

You don't want to eliminate all of your sidewall, you still need some area to actually get pavement/tread contact. 17" on a civic are fairly large, heck my buddy just threw some Enkei 16" on his Prelude and they fit perfectly. Go get a pair of 16" with a decent pair of tires.

Anything over 16" on a civic IMO is garbage. And NO you don't gain anything. On eg's 15's with a 195/50 is perfect.

On any '00 or lower chassis, anything beyond 16" is overkill, and will **** what little torque our cars make right up the *** without the lube. You just need to find some tires with a stiff sidewall.

Ok. I was wondering about the 17s cause most of the 15s or 16s I find that have a style I like will have a ridiculous amount of offset, which I don't want. But I will find something. Anyway, is there a way to determine if a tire will have a stiffer sidewall? I look at tires on tirerack.

Tires the have XL in the description stands for "extra load" and have reinforced sidewalls. Also ZR and Y rated tires will have a better sidewall.

Give us examples of the styles you like, and we might be able to help you find something with the proper offset.

Best bet is to keep the outside diameter the same size as stock unless you ether increase torque from the motor or re-gear your tranny.
With over sized wheels and tires your speedo is off the car will feel less responsive and it will hurt fuel milage and braking distance.
I have stats from a Chevy but the facts are the same.
2002 Chevy Tahoe was offered stock with 10" brakes and 16" wheels you could get a 12" brake and or 19" wheels.
With 10" brakes and 16" wheels the 60 to 0 was 75' however 10" brakes with 19" wheels 60 to 0 was 125' when the 12" brakes where used with 19" wheels stopping was reduced giving a 60 to 0 of 68'. This is as true for any car the out side diameter of the 19" package was only .32 bigger then the 16" but the rotational mass was 38% over that of the 16"

With that said I suggest using the miata tire calc. Google it.

And the best one for a stock 195/60R14 is a 205/45R16 and only adds 8 feet to your stopping distance on stock brakes.
