Default wierd sounds :(

ok so i have 2 problems with my 92 hb cx. any help of course would be appreciated.

1st) i noticed this just after i bought the car used, it makes a wierd grinding noise in all gears at a certain rpm and since i dont have the tach in my cluster and cant be exact at what rpm but im guessing it anywhere from about 27 to 3500. i dont think its the motor but i have no clue what else it could be there s no loss of power or any thing like nothing wierd besides the noise.

2nd) ok so now ive had my car for about 6 or so months i just get off of work to cash my check, driving along and my car dies for know reason ( i was sitting in the medien and it just died, i wasent driving) so i sit there for a sec try to turn it on and it starts.
ok so i cash my check head to the liquor store to stock up for the weekend run inside about 10min come out my car wont start luckily i had a buddy with me, so i just tell him to push me and ill pop the clutch.
so he starts pushing me i pop the clutch and my world nearly collapsed i heard this god awfull knocking noise i was like expletive i threw a rod or something, so i immediately turn the car off call my dad have him come down and listen to it, he doesnt think its anything with the pistons or anything like that, i had some other people listen to it and they agreed but im still baffled by this. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! valves maybe??? i dont know, it sounds to loud to be just some valves ticking.
oh by the way i never got an engine code for any of this

Change the oil & filter (3.4 qts are cheap), see if there's any metal flakes in it. If so, you may have spun a rod bearing, not uncommon in a d-series. That could cause problems idling, but you'll ahve to search to read up on them. The tranny could also be bad, since d-series are known for chewing up bearings inside. I've seen some that fall apart in your hand.

You could try changing the tranny oil with GM synchromesh or honda mtf, see if that helps & you can look for metal flakes.

I'd have to say not to drive it till you know what's up, but then again, a stock cx motor isn't all that valuable.
