wierd overheating problem on b18c1 swapped EG!!!!!!!!
i have a b18c1 gsr eg. it seems to overheat when i drive longer distances. but shorts trips of 4-6miles are fine. after that it will start to overheat. there seems to be no leaks on the bottom. but i found that there was a coolant on top of my radiator one day. im not sure if it was from my cap or not. coolant level is at the top of radiator. water/ coolant doesnt seem to be going back into my overfill. fan works fine. when the car is overheating the temp needle will go up and down. but will do this very slowly. the needle will keep rising but not into red. and as it sits on a red it will go down very slowly. the only things that i can think of are rad cap, hoses, maybe ill need a new radiator, or a sticking thermostat. recently had my water pump replaced about 4months ago. theres also no smoke or leaking fluid coming out the pipe. i have no idea what this problem is but its not letting me go very far and its getting really annoying. my trips to school, friends houses are fine. no overheating what so ever. please help! thanks!

had the same problem with my b16a2, but my problem was a bad thermostat, it wouldn't open so here's a little test you can do, run your car for just a few minutes then grab your lower tube and see if it's cold or hard, if it's hard run your car without the cap on the radiator to let the air bubble out, but i think i t might be your t stat not completely sure though, well good luck with it

No its not that expensive i would get that part from honda tho or acura to make sure its new. I would also try a coolent flush to make sure you dont have any blockage
And yes bleed the air out of the system as pauldizzle89 said air is a horroble transferrence so it will impede the proper cooling your car needs

its weird how it takes so long for it to start overheating tho, liike 30 mins of constant driving. but short trips she runs fine i thought it would have to do with pressure, so that why im assuming it my rad cap. not sure if its bad or not though, maybe ill post up a picture of my cap and radiator system. but everything seems fine. no loss of coolant, no leaks, sometimes there will be a bit of coolant on top of radiator and its seems to spray on my upper hose.

it sounds like you are running out of coolant.
have you looked at the black seal on the bottom of the cap? the fluid on top of the radiator and the spray on the hose tell me the cap is bad and not sealing.

the thing is that im not loosing a lot of coolant. the coolant is always at the top or near the top. im assuming its the cap but i got it recently at autozone like 6-8 months ago. unless i bought the wrong one?

is your radiator not clogged up? are the radiator metal slot thingies still all good and not bent? I cant think of how you can be running out of water cuz my buddy had a problem on his car with a bad water pump but its only when we stop would the water leak out of the pump. or maybe some how the water gets in the radiator and does not get in the motor after it cools down. If you have a 4 month old thermostat, drill 2 small holes on each side of the flat metal of the thermostat. Thats what my honda/acura performance shop did.

if your running the stock civic radiator i believe it has a smaller water neck. the gsr rad hose is a lil bit bigger so make sure that it is tight on the rad water neck.

To replace it, just follow the lower hose up to where it goes into the engine. It's usually easier if you take off the intake. Disconnect the hose, take off the thermostat housing, replace, put back together, refill coolant and bleed.
Easy-peezy, mang.

It's about 15 bucks from any parts store, and takes about an hour to change. Actually, it only takes like 10 minutes to change, but you have to drain the all coolant first, then refill it and bleed afterwards, all of which takes about an hour.

The lower should be as hot as the top one when fan turns on, your stat could be opening only half way or less
