Wierd Noise Coming from AC? Anybody ever have this problem?
I have a b-series w/ AC connected with a b20 bracket. When I hit about 6k rpm with the AC turned on, it makes this really loud hissing, high pitched noise. It does not make it when the AC is off. Thought it might be some kind of belt noise, but everything seems fine. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if it was the clutch wouldn't the noise be constant? It only does it around vtec range.

ever try replacing the compressor? Think i have it narrowed down to that, but not quite sure.

Re: (bushfreakz)
huh what? blowoff valve? I think I know what sound you're talking about bushfreakz, but it's not that. It's more of a higher pitched whiny noise.

I know that belts make noise when they are worn/too loose.... have you check to make sure the ac belt is tight? Could be its tight but just old and gets loose at higher rpm....

pop your hood, let someone take a look at your A/C Compressor's Clutch, see if it's grinding ... it's either your A/C Compressor's clutch is going bad, or A/C Compressor is about to blow out on you... i had my Compressor just blow out on me before... it was not pleasent, i bought a new A/C but the clutch was f'ked up and it made the noise you were talking about, but i got it replaced...
hope this helps...

It is definitely your AC belt too loose... just too loose for 6000 rpm... never drive your car with AC on on such high rpm range or you will blow the AC compressor...
It happens like this: when your AC cools the system enough it shuts off (AC clutch disengages the pulley - magnetic field is turned off) and then when system needs to be cooled again, clutch engages the pulley and the belt squeels cos rpm's are too high so it "slips"... you can try that with your car in neutral... just have someone push the pedal with your AC on and you watch what happens with the AC belt... at some point you will see that the inner pulley is rotating and the outer one is stopped... after clutch engages the outer pulley, you will hear the squeel...
Try to tighten the belt or try to buy a bit shorter belt:
I know for sure that for my car the best belt is 4PK845 (84.5cm) but the manual says 4PK850 (85cm)... with 4PK850 AC squeels and with 4PK845 it works like a charm... that 0.5 cm or 0.20in makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE...
