wierd electrical problem
OK so i had a weird problem this morning. last night i shut my car off like usual and everything went like normal, but my uncle called me this morning to let me know i had left my lights on and it was odd because i didn't, but for some reason my heater and my aux lights came on and drained my battery. The switch is always left on but this has never happened they key wasn't in the ignition but the aux lights turned on? they are wired into the defroster so its a key on source but its been like that for almost a year with no problems anyone know why this could have happened? and i don't think it is the ignition switch because everything else turns off

What switch is always left on? Are you saying that the blower motor ran and the parking and dash lights stayed on overnight?
The parking lights will stay on even when the key is off, so I don't fully understand the issue.

what your saying isnt to clear but from what it sounds like is either two wires burnt and ones constant voltage is powering the other. this is and odd situation cause u said its never done it before.

Re: wierd electrical problem
no not the parking lights, the del sol has the 2 "aux" lights in between the headlights and i modded the wiring over a year ago so that i can turn them on at anytime the key is on, instead of only able to have them on with the light and off with the high beams. so they are wired into the defroster for a key on source. but they somehome were able to turn on when the key was not on, and out of the car. I was also able to turn the heater on and the lights on the buttons on the heater stayed on as well. None of the other things in the car stayed on and all worked how they were supposed to. i hope that better explains

Start by carefully inspecting your rewiring job. As mentioned above, a hot wire may have come loose and is now improperly contacting another wire(s).

i think i may have fixed it i guess we will see once i go to drive it later the wire going into the defroster switch that i cut to add the wire for the aux lights the end opposite of the one to the plug had come undone so i fixed it and hopefully that fixed it

Re: wierd electrical problem
ok well it hasnt died on me yet but that doesnt seem to be the problem because i am having the same symptoms every so often i ran around to a few stores and at like the third stop the lights and heater stayed on for a few second then clicked off. then at the nextr stop it was fine. Now im home and the heater and buttons stay on and the aux lights turn off i believe but the heater controls stay on and lit up could it be the heater control unit? would that have anything to do with why the aux lights stay on?

Re: wierd electrical problem
so i just went to go mess around with it i even rewired it back to stock and it had the same problem so i think the problem lies else ware. so while the problem is going on [aux lights staying on heater still works, buttons on heater controls light up, while the key is off] if you turn the aux lights off they dont come back on and sometimes that turns the heater off but also the button to the far right that switches from outside air to inside air if you press that the problem stops as well but the heater control buttons still light up any ideas?

Re: wierd electrical problem
this happened to me on my old eg hatch when i was at school, i came out of class and went to get into my car and noticed my front windshiled was partly fogged up. then i noticed my defroster was on without my key in it. I just remembered to turn off the fan every time i parked and it wasnt a problem for me.
