Re: Why Would A wire Harness Burn?
Wires get too hot and melt the insulation when there is too much current (Amps). Usually the fuse pops before that happens. Check your wiring again, and make sure the circuit you added is properly protected by a fuse with the correct rating.

as stated
bad wiring, insufficent guage.
fuses are so this doesn't happen so check all your wires and grounds again.
if it is a bad kit could you let us know which person you got it from as a heads up for the rest of us?

Re: Why Would A wire Harness Burn?
Your problem was you bought from ebay. The fog light harness are very well known to have major issues. Sometimes the harness are bad right out of the box, sometimes they last, and others this happens.
My friend bought ebay fogs, harness went in the trash, and I made a new one.

what exactly do you need to make a good harness, Like wire gauge and and could i use the same relay and fuse?

Re: Why Would A wire Harness Burn?
We used a new relay, The only thing we reused from the harness was the plugs going to actually fogs, and the other ones.
I am sure you could reuse the relay if you wanted to.
We were able to de-pin his,not sure if yours will be the same.
I am 99% I used 18 guage, (it was a while ago, so I am not totaly sure)
You'll need, wire, crimpers, cuters, and assorted clips.
I made the harness 3-4 years ago, and as far as I know everything is still fine.

Re: Why Would A wire Harness Burn?
This happened to me:
I bought an eBay fog light kit for a 99/00 Civic and everything was fine except 1 wire was crossed in the harness. So it made the negative wire go to the positive terminal on the fog light, and the positive wire go to the negative terminal of said fog.
Luckily, nothing burned but the fog didnt work. Im guessing thats what happened to your set. The wire gauge that they use is fine, buy red black and white wires and copy the harness but keep an eye out for + and - terminals.

Re: Why Would A wire Harness Burn?
shorted lol.
i had a remote starter relay go bad in one of the cars and it slowly melted all my power wires.(took it about 2-3 months to melt before i notticed and smelled burning)
a direct short would drain power from bulbs making them dim. improper ground would also make the bulbs try to get groumd from where they not supposed to.
too small of a wire would usually melt slower than shorted out.
fuse might be too big.
fuse also has a threshold. it will not blow unless its a big enough current draw. so looks like its 30 amp fuse put smallest fuse there to be safe and increase the rating untill it stops blowing.(fuses are cheaper to replace then wires)
