why is there a clunking noise from rear passanger side?
so i just started noticing one day that there was a clunking noise in my rear passenger side suspension. i went and checked underneath but didn't see any worn out things. i notice the clunk when i hit bumps. and now at times i could even hear some kinda weird sound like something is cracking or something. almost the same sound as 2 metals grinding amongst each other, makes a weird pop corn sound sometimes too. well this really scares me and i dont know what it could be. i hear the sound from the trunk kind of. if it helps, everything on my 1997 civic coupe's suspension is stock besides the function and form coilovers and i have a pair of skunk 2 LCAs.

Does this happen when you hit the brakes as well? Mine has started doing this recently but doesn't when i'm on the brakes. Don't drive the car much so i figured i would figure it out when i do the rear disc swap.

Mine was doing it as well, changed out the coil spring isolators with some new ones from energy suspension and it seems to have helped tremendously. I did front & rear since i was doing it, took about an hour and the parts were like $25 shipped.

jack the back right so the tire is off the ground. Try to move the tire in all direction, pulling and pushing it.
It's either your trailing arm bushing(not seated evenly anymore), the upper control arm(worn bushings), the lower control arm(worn bushings), your strut or any part of it that could be binding, or rear sway bar mounts if you have one.

Re: why is there a clunking noise from rear passanger side?
so i did my rear disk brake swap today. and found that the bushing on the LCA that connects with the disk brake on the side that i heard the noise coming from is torn. part of it is like almost off. so is that most likely the problem? im going to order some bushings tomorow from skunk 2

Re: why is there a clunking noise from rear passanger side?
So i changed to stock and i still hear the clunking noise. tightened the bolts of the strut from inside my truck, still there. although i noticed as i had the LCA out, i would push up on the rear disk that i have so that the whole trail arm moves up, i would hear the clunk. i am assuming it must be that. its not the trailing arm. not the LCA, must be on the piece where the alignment is done. i do not have camber kits. anybody have an idea? i will mess with it some more when i get a day off work

Re: why is there a clunking noise from rear passanger side?
remembering way back to when my civic was bone stock, i was hearing a clunk randomly one day out of nowhere. turns out my factory exhaust had slipped out of the hanger just before the lca and was bouncing on the lca, just a thought. i would def check that out. make sure all the hangers are still attached. also could possibly be an upper strut mount? don't remember seeing if you replaced these or not, reason being you're hearing the clunk when pushing up the assembly without the lca attached. noise diagnosis is rough!

Re: why is there a clunking noise from rear passanger side?
I just purchased an 07 for my daughter. I noticed excessive wear on the interior edge of the tires. I changed the shocks trying to correct the wear. Now I have the noise described in this thread. It wasn't there before. Changing the shock a 2nd time did not alleviate the problem. Can anyone help?
