why is my idle so low???
alright well i have a d15b jspec motor and my idle use to be at 1k but recently its been at 500 i have been told my fuel filter, dizzy and my sparkplug and wires are bad. can those be the problem? i have a CEL of o2 sensor and IAT also but they only go on sometimes like 30 mins after driving but goes off everytime i turn off car and turn it back on. what can be wrong???

your CELs might be part of the problem. change the pcv valve, they have the tendency to do this and you can also adjust your idle through a screw on the t/b. but take care of those CELs too.

it is fine to drive. replace whatever cel its throwing and adjust your idle from your idle adjustment screw.

maybe your IAT is messed up... or maybe you don't have a cold-start program, could be something with the ECU. That's what happened to my buddy, he has a 92 Si hatch and his idoling was just like what you're sayin'.
whatever it is-- good luck!

yeah, and his wasnt chipped correctly so he didnt have it. had to get his ECU reflashed. we couldnt figure out what the hell was wrong until we stumbled across that.

fuel filter, distributor and sparkplugs may cause low idle.
There are also 25 other things that can as well.
CEL on will cause low/high idle. (at the top of the list)
Fix your O2 and IAT problems. Both problems will cause the car to run oddly.
BTW, cycling the ignition always resets the ECU in throwing a CEL.
It does not remove the problem, only the ECU knowing about it.

I am not sure why you feel it is a problem my 93 si has always idled at 500 rpms after it warms up it never has stalled or shut off at this rpm. I've owned the car for 13 years and have over 210,000 on it So why do you feel its a problem? Is the car shutting off on you?

i'm tellin you, you dont have a cold-start program on your ECU. maybe you dont have the codes logged. i know its happened to other people. that or the IAC

chipped ECUs must have a cold start program.... at least as much as a normal ECU does.
cold start is simple a group of values that decrease or increase the amount of fuel (IAT dependant) when the car is cranking and warming up.
If those values are not set right it will run like crap.
A bad IAT sets these values at their worst case (super rich) and the car will idle f'd up, but it will idle.
Fix your IAT and O2 CEL and the car will run better.

My D-series when fully warmed, no accesories on, idles between 500 and 700 rpms. stock ecu. no codes. 94 civic coupe ex abs. check your oil too. Mine was a qt low, added it back and the idle smoothened out.
