why is an ls faster than d15b vtec
Alright here is the story. I have a 92 cx hatch with a jdm d15b vtec with no rear seats no spare no ac and no rear bumber support. I raced my friend with a 94 dx hatch with full interior with a 130hp ls. I took him off the line cause he cant launch but by mid 2nd gear he started pulling and by mid fourth he was about 3 cars ahead. I know that ls has about 15-20 more lbs of torque but does that make it that much faster than me. Oh i forgot we both have just and intake and exhaust. is this about right or should i have been closer 2 him?

about a million variables.
driver skill,engine condition,tranny ratios,car weight,etc,etc,etc.....
comparing peak torque and HP values does nothing.i guarantee that LS has way more power at any RPM than the D15-the lower the RPM,the bigger the advantage.
i've installed a couple of the D15 VTEC engines and wasn't very impressed.a 1.5L engine can only feel so peppy NA.there's just no replacement for that small displacement.

i thought an ls motor is rated 140hp ...to flywheel ......what tranny are you running with the d15vtec?.....besides i think dual cam motor should have alot more to top end speed.

the d15 is cool but you compare it too a 1.8 ls hp ratings mean nothing as said before but it's all in driver and conditions of the motor. and the tranny gears. but both are good apps. for turbo. try that. but i think it came down to the gear ratios and weight of the cars. imo.

Everyone keeps saying that weight is one of the variables in the equation. Usually it is, but to the best of my knowledge, the cx is the lightest chassis available. Not to mention a gutted interior, which isn't much, but it is enough if a lot is taken out.
Gear ratios could be a thing, but then again, the LS has one of the longer gear ratios in Honda history (so I've been told).
The displacement is also a factor though. Like he said, every car and driver is different.
