Why Does my idle drop down to zero when running...?
Ok I just searched for other topics like my problem and didnt find ****.
Motor:
D16z6 (92 si hatch/98,000 miles)
Dc sports header
aem cai
vafc (stock settings)
Any time i start my car up and drive it around when i stop at a stop sign or redlight or anywhere my idle will drop to zero/100 and i look down at my VAFC and its reading 750-800 most of the time.
It never really actually rough idles but its enough to bother me and i would like to fix it.
Someone help me yO!

Do you mean idle on your tach drops? Could be the cluster, since the VAFC sounds like it's reading the proper idle RPM (since it sounds like it's idling properly)

Yep, my bad the tach reading in my cluster drops all the way down to zero.

Re: Why Does my idle drop down to zero when running...? (Happyman)
My tach reads just about 0, maybe 1mm above the 0 mark at idle. I know the motor idles around 800-1000. My girlfriends is also the same way in her civic. Stock tachs are off, if you haven't figured that out already. I use the honda tach as a rough estimate of the actual RPMs the motor is at.

well mine does this **** to! I have an A/F gauge and it dropes all the way to RICH like the engine is choking/flooding itself... I have had this problem since I got my SIR swap. I used the head, manifold and ecu for my LS/VTEC and it is still doing it.... what is up? IT runs it's ***** off and it never studders but @ idle( yes i checked/replaced my IDLE AIR contorl) so?

Also the VAFC splices in to the RPM wire on the ECU. If this connection isn't 100% your factory tach may have electrical issues. Factory idle is at 750rpm +/- 50rpm. The VAFC is your ACTUAL RPM so go by that number. Good luck and HAPPY TUNING!!!

On stock tachs, you can't read between 0 and 500. If you look at it, there is only about 1mm between the 0 mark and the 500 mark. I think most people incorrectly think the 500rpm line is the 0rpm line.

Re: Why Does my idle drop down to zero when running...? (Usdmdc2)
my car has been doing that for like four months. It wont stall everytime but when I come to a complete stop it almost stalls and stalls out only sometimes. I replaced the iacv, plugs, and wires but it didnt do anything.
I actually finally fixed it though yesterday!!!! I changed my battery and m,y car ideles perfect and never stalls and I can also finally adjust the idle. Whenever I used to adjust the idle screw it would never move. Who would of thought that the battery would of been the culprit behind my screwed up idle. You might want to go have yours checked just incase.

wish that was my solution...I have had several diff batteries in 2 different cars and it has done it in both (again, used engine pieces from SIR swap that started the ilde problem
