Default Why does my damn idle fluctuate?

It goes between 250 rpm's and 1k rpms. It seems to do it when it wants.

WTF is up?

You might have air in the cooling system or the IAC needs to be cleaned.

Why would air in the cooling system cause fluctuation?

Where is the iac located on these? The intake pipe?

How do I get the air out? Open the cap, and run the car w/ the heat on?

Have you checked your vacuum lines? If they are loose or leaking, this could cause erratic idle rpms.

also, there is no CEL on.. but the previous owner removed the bulb. I scanned the computer though and nothing turned up.

I checked the vacuum lines and everything seems great. I had this problem, but it never died.. then I seafoamed the intake and now it's pulsing bad, idling at 1800, and dies at red lights when it wants.

You have a bad iac or the iac is not hooked up.

everything appeared to be hooked up. I'm gonna go double check.

This probably has nothing to do with my gas mileage though right?

The idle is at like 1700 when its cold. after it warms up, the idle is sometimes at 1k rpms, sometimes it dips to 250rpms and shakes the whole car, and then sometimes it randomly decides to die out.

The iacv seems to be hooked up properly to me

As already mentioned by others, check the coolant level in the radiator and also bleed the cooling system of possible trapped air. Air in the cooling system can cause the coolant temperature sensor to make false readings.

You might also want to try adjusting the idle screw on the throttle body.

How would coolant being low or bubbly interfere w/ the idle?

I'm thinkin about burping it this weekend.

I'm not gonna touch the idle screw.. there is somethign wrong because it really does whatever the hell it wants to do.. it's not a matter adjusting the idle I dont think.

Idle speed is determined in part by engine temperature. When the engine is cold, the ECU causes the IACV to open and increase idle speed. When the engine is hot, the ECU causes the IACV to close and decrease idle speed. Air trapped in the cooling system can cause the coolant temperature sensor to send a false temperature reading to the ECU, thereby leading to an inappropriate and fluctuating idle.

Ahhh gotcha. Well I half-assed burped the coolant, and it was idling jsut fine in my driveway. I'm gonna see what happens tomorrow and see if it gets better or worse. If anything I can go back and reburp it the Mans way and see what happens.
