Why does my car die out after i turn off the ignition for about 5 mins...........
Whenever i drive my car and i stall, how come when i start it up again it dies out? and when i try to start it again it won't start until u wait a while or press gas hard sometimes. It wouldn't just start when i turn the key? does anyone know why? i mean i hardly stall but sometimes it just happens and it won't start. so sometimes when i'm the first car in front of stop light and it turns off, it's embarrassing.. does anyone know why?

what year car do you have? I know the 96-00 civics have a recall for the ignition switch.....ie...the car just dies.....wont start right away......

did you ever mess around with your idle? that could be the problem as well.

fuel? i had fuel problems...and it acted up like u how u described it. it was pretty embarrassing for me too.

I had a fuel problem once....Kinda the same thing..but it would have trouble starting...I'd have to give it gas...but anyways, I unplugged my fuel pump, and plugged it back in, and everything was normal.

really? that works? i'm having the same problem right now. how do i unplug the fuel pump?

it is your main fuel relay !!!!! 100% just take it apart and "reweld" it !!

thanks...ill look into that. weird thing is..i didn't have the problem until after i changed my fuel filter. i doubt if i installed the fuel filter incorrectly though...

the plug should be on the fuel pump.....unplug it, and plug it back in...I think the pump is underneath the rear seats on civics..but I'm not sure anymore.

If its a 92-95 I had the same problem. Occasionally if I turned the car off and tried to start it again, it wouldn't start up immediately, I'd have to give it about 5 mins. before it would start back up. Pulled the Main Fuel Relay- checked it for continuity and found my problem, switched it out with an extra and haven't had the problem since.

If it is the main relay you will notice that the vehicle will not start
again after it is hot...
If you gan open the doors and or windows and cool the interior the
vehicle will start...that is a good sign it is the main relay...
Good luck...
If you gan get it to duplicate check for power at the fuel pump...if not it is the
main relay...if power is there and the vehicle still will not start it is something
else...
