Why does my b16 seem slow?
hey,
I dunno, my vtec does kick in and it revs nicely, but i dont make much power till im in vtec and well it seems kinda slow... i have a lot of mods...all new fluids, spark plugs, new belts, alternator.... anything else mabie compression, timming check to mabie check up on? i dont really know if its just me or not because i haven't dynoed yet.
im eventually going to turbo, but i wanna make sure my engine is still in good condition, I also dont wanna spend hella money paying someone to check my head and block.
oh and dont tell me blah blah blah its a 1.6 liter, vtec owns joo.
Please constructive answers now

if everything feels fine then everything most likely is. I'd go ahead and do the following two things. 1. get a compression check..2. get dynoed just for a baseline ...so you'll have some peace of mind and if you plan on doing more upgrades ie. turbo or whatever you can see how much more you made....good luck

I'm not sure what the stock TB bore is on a B16, but 65mm seems hella big for a 1.6 litre. I have a 52mm on my 2.0 neon (up from 49) and have a 55 awaiting installation. People use a Jeep 60mm on the neon for a cheap upgrade but dyno results show only minimal hp gains after 58mm, and no torque gains.
Try a more restrictive tb and see what happens. You already have the top-end (vtec) so take a little from that and move it to the low-end.

-1983 Saab 900 Turbo, free if you pick it up.

Well I guess.
Get a couple dyno runs on it.
Boost it.
Blow it up.
Build it.
Boost it more.
Call it a year and sell it on honda-tech.

Re: Why does my b16 seem slow? (Maverik4k)
my gsr motor is starting to feel slow now that i'm used to it. It never really "felt" like a fast car, but it puts the numbers up. Its faster than many cars that feel faster.
Its these torquless 4 cyl engines, they make a lot of hp but they don't have the torque to sit you back in your seat- gradual "roll on" power. I'm thinking i need shorter gearing now, that'll give some more torque feel.

most of the time not in vtec but vtec is fun too

its not how big the engine, its how much air it flows. VTEC motors flow lots of air.

Re: (2FAST4U831)
if u want your vtech 2 kick in earlier(lower rpm's) you can get a chip for your ecu that can do it for you. just look for some of those. i just finished a b16 swap w. a friend, and he's about 2 buy a ecu thats already been chipped for him. i know some people who already have it and it doesnt feel slow. they have the vtech come in around 3500-4000... which is fine.
its up 2 you. but a turbo would always be better

H22a are pretty torque for being a 4 cyl., but yes the b16's arent as torque like you said.

vtec coming in that low isn't gonna do a thing for you...defenately with a motor with just basics mods. It won't make it feel any better if anything it will make your car feel like it has a cold or something. Plus the cams don't make power down that low. Don't do that to your motor

Re: Why does my b16 seem slow? (Maverik4k)
Ya..i agree..you should check ur timing and compression. But one thing you should also check is ur fuel mixture, it sounds like ur running a little too rich or lean. Check ur fuel filter, injector, and pressure regulator and see if they are functioning correctly.
