why does my air/fuel ratio gauge tell me i run rich when the cars idle is dying
my air/fuel ratio gauge is telling me im running rich when the idle drops to like 500. when it is idlign at 900-1000 my air/fuel raito gauge is telling me im running stoich. i have a b16 with type r head and valvetrain and type r intake manifold and throttle body, i/h/e, jdm sir2 ecu. why does my cars idle drop and say its running rich? it doesnt idle like this all the time, mainly when i come to a dead stop at a light.

Could be bad timing, idle screw set wrong, or the ECU is running too much fuel on the idle circuit. It shouldn't idle at 500rpms, thats for sure. I would say double check your timing and set your idle.

I thought that A/F gauge's reading were not accurate unless you were under WOT. My A/F gauge would jump back and forth at idle and while cruising and when I get it decent gas it would be pegged on a reading. What brand gauge are you using?

Its supposed to "jump".. Its actually called sweeping. Its the ECU in open loop mode attempting to constantly find stoich. Thats just how it works. If its reading off the stock O2 sensor, then its not going to matter WHAT gauge you or anyone else is using, its not accurate under any conditions. Its just to give you a general idea. If you want accuracy, you get a wideband.
