Why do I have to hit my dashboard to get the instrument panel light to work??
I have a 93 civic coupe 5 spd dx. I took the gauge cluster out and everything is in place. I checked all the bulbs in a hunch that the lights may have all been in series. The harness is connected and all pins are ok. When at night, the instrument cluster lights sometimes dont work or suddenly go out. A swift slap above the dashboard brings them back to life. Is my civic just quirky?

Your not alone.
The same **** happens to me too.
My headlights will dim, even die on me when driving.
Just 2 days ago something happend to my wiring for the
headlights, i think it shorted out, cause smoke was coming
out the steering counsel.

i had a similar problem. I found my problem when i riped my dash out. Previous owner did a shoe maker job when wiring things, and spliced into wires; left some bare which caused a short.
try a diff panel to see if it works if not i would get out the volt meter

That sounds like a short to ground. Check it with a multimeter.
