Default Blown motor due to oil pressure loss

any way was driving home sunday at midnight doing about 60, when the little oil pressure light comes on, and the car dies. So luckly i had oil in the back of my car, so i put some in, started the car back up and it was knocking, but not to bad. so then i drive another 2 to 3 miles down the road and i hear a pop (not loud) and the car dies again, i check the oil level its fine, i go to start it up again it turns over really slow and makes i whirlling sound.
If anyone has some suggestions on what i might be let me know,i have got to get it running asap. it was a d16y7/y8 mini.

the oil light is for oil pressure, not oil level. and if i was u check ur timming belt it might have broke, but most likely ur internals r f*ked, through a rod or something?

Yeah, oil light means "STOP DRIVING". If you'd stopped, you might have saved the motor. It's probably a total loss now.

You probably threw a rod, lmao.

I would say spun bearing, but you said knocking, not grinding .

Ha.

Funny ****.

When that light comes on, you have to like, STOP, and call a tow truck or something b/c the motor's usually pretty screwed up by then.

Good luck.

EDIT:

Iono, "whirling sound" - could be a spun bearing noise O.O.

ya drain your oil and look for metal chips. If you have some metal in your oil than your screwed. If not i ould take off the oil pan and the pick up and the splash guard and check all your rod and main bearings just incase.

When this happened to me thank god the only things that broke were my oil pump and my camshafts.

no oil to the head and the cams rubbing against the rocker assembly.

i didn't think that the lack of oil could cause a cam to snap. You do learn something new everyday...

Are you serious...You heard that noise in your car, and kept driving it? UHHH DUH DO NOT DRIVE

Anyways your probably getting enough bitching at for that, so thats all i'm going to say.

My guess is you may have threw a rod, or like the other guys said a timing belt. In that case, the motor is a total loss. My suggestion is check everything out, and see what really went wrong.

Not insulting you personally...but you should change the title of your thread for the simple reason of helping people search better in the future. Someone else may have the same problem a few months from now and this thread could be somewhat helpful.

Figure if you're going to go through the time and effort to post the question, I'm sure you'd want to help someone in your shoes in the future.

Good luck solving the problem. And also to help people in the future, you should definitely list what it DOES turn out being when you solve it.

Again...Good Luck! I can imagine how stressing you are right now.

Was it knocking before the light came on?

I'd say oil pump, spun bearing, kept driving, broke rod from piston slapping head.

You need to tear the engine completely apart and check every bearing inside your engine. And I mean tear it completely down.

speaking of people who dont know what their doing, I know i guy whose timing belt snapped and he bent some valves i guess. Anyways hes paying a shop 2K for all new valves and bassically a new head, when he could have gotten a perfectly good used head for like $200. It made me laugh

Your oil pump failed, and you probably spun bearings and/or threw a rod as a result. Oil pump failure seems to unfortunately be a common problem with the D16Y-series bottom ends. Your best bet is to scrap the current engine and pick up a used D to swap in. They are very inexpensive.

yea, ill see the noise was knocking can after the light came on. there was no valve slap, the head is in perfect condition. the block had about 100xxx miles on it so oil pump is my guess, lack of pressure means spun bearings. yea i know i should have stoped driving but on first inspection i didnt see any huge holes, to me its drivable intill it quits. prolly goin to put a new y7 block swap in a new oil pump and call it a day. ill keep posting on any progress hopefully i can put up some pics.

if it was a timing belt then it would be fine because the d-motors are non interferance(sp?) motors so no matter how f'd the timing is the valves will not hit the piston. atleast i know it is true on the z6

i dunno how true that is, timing belt goes, so does engine...if that was untrue, i still would be driving my 88 civic, which obviously had a d-series

Yea, sounded like something along the lines of,

"oh if your girlfriend is a stripper, and has some crazy blisters around her lips, as long as she is white with fake babylons it will NEVER be an std"

Or

"if you have a b-series that was made in the years 1993-01, then you will be promised a sexy time with eva longoria per. the owner of honda."
