why can some cars be started without pushin in the clutch and some cant?

Default why can some cars be started without pushin in the clutch and some cant?

my 89 hatch needed the clutch in to start my friends 88 doesnt, why?

some cars have a sensor that lets the ecu know if the clutch is in, others dont. on some cars its just plain broken.

and this is a good security thing you can do. Move the clutch pedal sensor somewhere esle. So you have to push the button to start the car. The car will not start without this button pushed!
