It's not factory standard, and they probably didn't do a proper build up on it, if it's that cheap. The head alone can be gotten for 450-1000 depending on what you put on, and the block probably 100-250. Then you gotta get head studs, intake mani, conversion kit. I wouldn't buy a $600 B20V unless I knew the person, and they took good care of the engine.

you mean the non vtec long blocks are cheap not the build itself.. then you would have to buy a vtec head, transmission, ecu, and tune.. its best to build the bottom block if you want reliable daily driven power.. no put together swap is cheap.. its all about preference..

In order to build a reliable B20 vtec prepare to add some money, you can't just slap on a head and call it a day.

do you even know what you're talking bout? are you thinking that theres a factory b20vtec? if so theres no such thing. theres the b20 non vtec(honda crv motor). yes, they go for ~$600 for the longblock, but for vtec you gotta buy a dohc vtec head($400+). the vtec head goes on top of the b20 block, thus b20vtec. so you're in the hole for almost a grand already w/out tranny, labor, mount, vtec conversion kit, shift linkage, and much more. sorry buddy gotta read some more man.

You can buy b20 for 395.00 from a good website, not 600.00.

I have had good experiences with them, but i was able to visit them in person and hand-pick what I wanted. They aren't the best to deal with, though.

I haven't used hmotorsonline but have heard nothing but great things. It seems those guys go out of their way to make their customers happy, but of course its more expensive there. Personally, though, I think if you are buying a B20B for a VTEC build, HMO isn't necessary...you'll be tearing apart that longblock anyways.

Hmotors is worth it. Sure they cost more but they don't mess around.

I have a B20VTEC swapped into my Del Sol Si. It's a B20b block from a JDM 1997 Honda CRV. The head is a 1994 USDM GSR. They are mated with a Golden Eagle LSVTEC conversion kit.

Like everyone else said, what you are looking at is a B20 block, which are cheap. (they dont come with shift linkages/tranny) and are essentially a B18 with more low end TQ. They are reliable if put together right, and not tached out like crazy. I use the GSRs stock limiter at 82, but I dont take it up past 7 unless I'm on the track. Just not worth the risk, but this goes with any engine really.

You are taking two reliable motors and combining them essentially, the only thing that makes them unreliable is somone who doesnt research what he's doing and does it half ***. OR the owner who tachs it out and cracks a sleeve or some shitt idk.

They are said to be reliable up to 300whp before they need to be resleeved (sleeves are the thinnest of all Bseries)

ok, b20 long block $549.99. I understand it will take some money to do the vtec but how much more? what my real question is that b16s and b18s are smaller engines and cost way more it seems. why is that? I'm not a pro and don't claim to be, nor did I do a ton of research. I thought it's okay for noobs to ask questions like this on here. if it's too much trouble for some of you guys to answer my question without telling me that I'm dumb (in one way or another), don't bother. to those that are giving a nice, helpful response, thank you

Well, the more expensive B16 and B18 engines you are referring to are "performance" engines, and are priced as such. A B20 is a light-truck motor, with no original intention of being the powerplant inside a performance Civic or Integra.

your probably talking about the newer crv's with the k24a motors.. they do have vtec but were talking about 97-00 crvs with the B series block.. not the K series.

+1
I'm almost positive that there was never a VTEC B-series powered CRV.
