why am I running hot???
I have a d18y7 with a JRSC......it has 67000 miles on it. Why would I be running hot? I was missing some anti-freeze last week , but there are no leaks so i filled up the reseviour to the line. I think some of the anti-freeze is evaporating when the temp. gets up there. I am running 3/4 of the way to the h(hot) level sometimes. It doesn't always cool down when i am on the highway, while blasting the heat. It never did this before. Please help!! Can a water-pump's fins wear down this soon in a motor's life?

Does the fan come on once it gets to 3/4? Have you ever overheated? Are you mixing the coolant correctly? Is your thermostat ok? I don't know a lot about superchargers, but those are a few things off the top of my head.

Do NOT do this!!! Antifreeze by itself has very shitty heat transfer capabilities. This is why you add the water. Use a 50/50 mix and you're good to go.
Check to make sure your fan comes on. If you recently opened up your cooling system you might have an air bubble in there. Also you might have a T-Stat that went bad on you.
When your car is cold, open up the radiator cap and fill it up through the radiator opening instead of the overflow bottle. That tube might be plugged and your radiator isn't sucking in the water you're dumping in. VERY unlikely though.
Another far fetched idea would be to check the front of your radiator. I've had a plastic bag sucked up against mine before and it made my temps go through the roof.

Re: why am I running hot??? (IslandSi)
yes....my fan still works. The bottle emites out gradually, so it is definatley ok. My friend said that the single core radiator is a peice of ****....and 68,000, supercharged miles could have fucked up the **** radiator. I think i may just get a new dual core del-sol radiator tomorrow. Thanks for your help guys....

Re: why am I running hot??? (kidkanedtx)
I made a similar thread about my car overheating yesterday, except with my car it's actually leaking anti-freeze on the backside of the motor. I went for a ride today and when I stopped and took it back home anti-freeze was sprayed all on the backside of the motor/firewall. So I changed the thermostat just in case it was stuck. Took it for a drive, it still overheated and leaked...except this time it ALSO would rev up to 2000 then drop down to about 900.
Anybody know what's going on?

I dont think the revving has anything to do with the new thermostat. How many times did it do this? Are there other issues with your car you didn't list? What mods do you have?

What caused the revving? Vacuum lines?

Nevermind I thought I fixed it...then it started up again.

I changed the thermostat yesterday, then after that is when it started revving up to 2k then back down to idle, then it'd do it again. Somebody else also told me that my head gasket is possibly going out, it's leaking anti-freeze from somewhere under the intake manifold and I can't find it because it doesn't leak when the car is off. Never changed a headgasket, gaskets usually aren't that hard. So is it a job that can be done for a first timer who's never worked with anything really internally on a motor?

Re: why am I running hot??? (Infamous_Imports)
if it is your head gasket....there would most likely be coolant leakign and mixing in with your motor oil...check your oil...if he looks milky..brown..or like diarrea....chances are your oil is mixing with water....head gasket replacement isnt as simple as a valve cover or oil pan gasket replacement. It requires the removal of the head and an inspection of the head for cracks or wharpage. Surely not a job for the weak hearted or less mechanically inclined.

How likely is it that head is cracked or warped? It was on hot the other day, when I say hot I mean on the H. I guess I will take it to a professional and let them look at it, but I want my car back the same day!
-Somethin else wierd happened too, Ok check this out. Yesterday I put anti-freeze in it up to the full mark. I then cut the car on and went about 150ft up the street and turned around. No anti-freeze leaking it was all still sitting in the container next to the radiator still on full. Car goes up to hot but it's not leaking, after I try to find where it WAS leaking from I am once again unsuccessful. I turn around and go in the garage when I hear this gulp noise, I go back to the car cause i'm like wtf. Well ALL the anti-freeze was gone...not dripping from anywhere, just gone. So can anybody tell me what the hell happened with that?
BTW man, sorry for kinda jacking your post...
And my civic isn't completely stock.

Re: why am I running hot??? (Infamous_Imports)
hey IMfamous Imports ......you should start your own thread..but here goes....i think you have huge air bubbles in your system. this is what i would do....when fillin your system...open the purge valve that's located at the head where the top radiator hose is connected at the engine. Start the car......fill at the radiator when the thermostat opens at the desired temperature. How will you know the thermostat is open? the water inside the radiator will start to flow...from bottom to top....so you'll see it moving...kepp filling as needed until coolant starts to squirt out of the valve. Tighten the valve...pressurize the system (clos ethe radiator cap)....let it run... watch the temp gauge cuz you never wanna let it go to H. Over tempt damage occurs when you let it go to H...this is when the soft aluminum heads crack and wharp. Let car cool...and check levels again. One last idea....is there a puddle of coolant in your passenger side carpet? chech the heater core dude. Sounds like you need a huige heater core leak ...but if you have the system filled with anti freeze (oily)....when the coolanta leaked from your heater core evaporates inside the cabin..it will leave a oily filmy residue on your winshield (liekly passenger side).
An easier way to check if your thermostat is opening correctly is to let the car warm up to about 1/2 mark....touch the bottom and top radiator hoses....if the top one is waay cooler than the bottom one (alot of temp. differential) chances are your thermostat is fucked up.

Re: why am I running hot??? (Infamous_Imports)
Ok, I'm going to try and make this my last post in this thread. Bit I pretty much figured out around where the leak is coming from. It's somewhere under the intake manifold, yet above the oil filter. Only reason I know this is because i've checked just about every hose in the coolant system, and i have dried up anti-freeze running down my oil filter. So anybody got an idea? head gasket...
-changed the thermostat the other day.
-no wet carpet on the interior
-no filmy residue
-oil looks normal

not really
it can blow so that is going in the cyl
plus I have seen a blown headgasket that was leaking into oil but when you looked at the dipstick it was NOT milky color
That damn car killed me for days untill i opened the oil cap and looked in and saw a milky color oil
does the car smoke at all?
if it does what color?

Re: why am I running hot??? (turbogixxer)
Car doesn't smoke one bit. I'll look inside where the oil cap is, because I checked the dipstick and it looked normal.
