Default Who's unsatisfied with their 96-00 Cluster light output?

Ok, For the longest time Ive been telling myself just to live with the light output.
Ive gone through:

Buying new clear bulbs and painting them.
Buying sylvania amber bulbs.
To finnaly buying red bulbs from Autoillumination.com

The red bulbs is where ive been at for awhile but was never completely happy.
Only other option i see is LED's. Ive heard issues with them though.
Its not so much the lighting on the numbers/gas and fuel. Its more the needles being too dark. Ive since changed the bulbs above the cluster to white but it still isnt good enough.
Im also just thinkin about buyin all new clear bulbs and throwin them in there.

Im wondering if anyone had some brainstorm ideas about painting the needles with glow in the dark paint. Im really open to anything, aside from getting a different cluster.

I have few friends with "newer" cars such as EVO's, Mazdaspeed and Acura TL. I love the TL cluster lighting, Or even the 03-04 civic clusters.

Anyway, The real question is,

Who is unhappy about their 6th GEN cluster lights.

Mine was always fine. I used stock lighting in it, and later amber lighting.

Now I'm using a manual CR-V cluster and it's still fine imo.

Ive been thinking about a CR-V cluster, Does the orange around the speedometer/tach help any? I guess it is "fine" but comparably to other clusters. Id love to get mine like my GF's 2000 323ci BMW. Even though that thing is a POS

Seems bright enough to me

Are you sure you have the dimmer adjuster all the way to the brightest?

I know on mine (I have a CR-V cluster as well) it seems pretty dim, although I did take out the bulbs that are on the top facing the needles. But I'm pretty satisfied with it, I don't do much night driving anyway.

As you may know, the CR-V cluster is mechanically the same as the 6th gen Civic clusters. It's mostly a matter of one having an orange edge around the gauges and the other having blue.

Like I said though, my lighting has always been fine.

The needles being lit well mostly has to do with the lights above the cluster gauges. If you want the needles brighter, change those.

I can't see how you could make our clusters look like some of the higher end makes without doing quite a bit of modification.

I'm using an ex cluster in my dx. Threw some LED's in there and called it a day. Couldn't be happier

I know the clusters are the same aside from the orange edge.

Yeah. Youre probably right about the Higher end cars. Ive just always thought it should be brighter.

And I know the bulbs above the cluster are for lighting the needles, I think im gonna keep my basic red bulbs behind the cluster and put LED's up top. Maybe if the plastic thats in front of the bulbs up top wasnt so frosted it would be brighter. hmm.

Are you talking about this?

If so, that was the first thing I ripped out to increase light output lol.

Looks real good.

Edit: where did you get the LED's? Theyre expensive, But if i can get light output like that, Im in.

There's a distinct possibility:

You're legally blind and shouldn't drive at night.

I've had tons of different setups in my car, including the stock mint condoms. Even those I liked. I'm talking blue, amber, purple, green, etc. I've even done the "natural" look with clear glass. It comes out kind of a dull orange/peach color.

Here's my current setup:

Lighting Technoliges/Blazer 24NA's, Sylvania W5W-A (more even color with the 24NA's), and tri-green LED 74's with a custom diffuer.

I do sit too close to the tv. lol

The backround light is fine. I was mainly focused on the Needles. Now seeing two set ups with LEd's above the cluster makes a hell of a difference.
