Who Here Has Ever Seen 13 Second EM1 Si with only i/h/e MSD, and Slicks?
In light of a recent topic I must ask this question, because there was some guy who was claming to run 13 second timeslips in an EM1 Si with the only mods being i/h/e, an MSD box, and on slicks.
The topic was locked (due to it being the ever-tired D vs B series topic) so I never had the chance to get the whole story, but I'm calling total bullshit.
It would take a good 180whp to get a 2500lb. Civic to run those times, even on slicks.
Who else here has ever seen first-hand a car with such mods running those sort of times?
Hopefully the guy who made the claims will chime in here with proof in videos, timeslips, pics, etc. but I seriously doubt it since his argument before was "I know what my car runs. If you've got an Si not running those times yours is slow"

I dont see hatches with stock B16 on slicks run 13s. I barely see hatches with GSR's and slicks run 13s stock.

That seems wayyy to fast. Maybe 14's with those mods. Perhaps the car in question was gutted or something? idk, just tossing something out there.

Believe me I'm aware of what they usually turn, but I'm just wanting to see if anyone has ever seen some sort of freak or something.
I can't see any imaginable scenario allowing an i/h/e and MSD-equipped Si running anything better than 14.5 on slicks, much less anything in the 13 second range - 13.99 included.
I'll use an ITR as an example since they are about the same weight, but have at least 30 more whp:
ITRs usually pull mid 14's at the strip on street tires, so you figure they may pull high 13's on slicks - do you think that any 99-00 i/h/e MSD Si will have the 175whp or more it'd take to run high 13's?

I've heard of a VX on slicks run a high 13 with slicks. The guy actually works at Boomslang if you call there

Ahh, the details, he swapped and ITR motor into it. I guess that comment isn't really on subject but it's interesting. It's a stock ITR motor (from Japan).

friend with a 99 sir, basic bolt ons i/h/e, qaufe, and a 55shot of zex on street tires ran 14.5's all day long with a full interior. They are a heavy car. i cant see 13's with just i/h/e, and that amazing msd. Tell me how much power does an msd box add to a stock motor? my opinion? NONE

Not sure about the VX, but I guess we could save that one for another topic?

I have NEVER understood the need for any MSD bullshit on an other wise stock engine other than i/h/e.
If the stock honda ignition was found on Erick Aguilar's 10 second Civic, then it's good enough for any 140whp B16A!!!

It is BS. When there is only a handful of light base EG hatches running 13.9's with I/H/E B16 there should be no reason a 500lb heavier car could come close to doing it. I don't even know why it's a topic on it...

I have an MSD SCI on my bone-stock 260k mile D16Z6 because it helps gas mileage . I've put MSD ignition systems on every vehicle I've owned for that same reason. It bumped my 4.3 Vortec S10 up 3 miles per gallon
On topic, though, I've never seen a street-tire EM1 with I/H/E break out of the mid-15's (low 15's maybe once), so I doubt a set of slicks is going to shave over one-and-a-half seconds from that figure. He's bullshitting and he's going to cry when he reads this thread

definitely not, to get 175hp out of an SI you'll need I/H/E, Manifold, CTR Cams, and tuned on Hondata and it puts down numbers i've seen from about 173-178 usually. There are exceptions but high 13s with just i/h/e msd....no.
And I'm not downing SI's, I own one, I'm just saying its not possible to get 13s with I/H/E
