white smoke...not at startup or idle, but at about 5K RPM or higher (video inclu)

Re: (boostedNOTHARDLY)
Usually valve seals just allow it to smoke on start up, then go away when warmed up. And to add isnt white smoke anit-freeze, could it be the start of a bad headgasket? Not sure what else coolant goes through that could make its way into the combustion chamber,

well for one thing you won't 'hit' vtec reving the engine at a standstill. It looks like its either your valve seals on piston rings. I would say bahhh and fogetaboutit. d16 longblocks are like $300... jk...I wouldn't worry too much about it. Either take the time to tear the motor down, get a new head, or bounce that **** off the limiter till she blows and swap in a b series.
or according to your description you could just reinstall the header.

Re: (Mr.Chow)
Yes, I realize I won't hit VTEC revving it in neutral...LOL. But it was puffing out smoke at about 5K RPM in the video. While driving, it seems to start smoking around the same time that VTEC engages. The aftermarket header had the PFFFFFFFFFFTTTT! sound and I can't live with that. So it's gone.

Re: (A_Rotary_Guy)
I'm fairly certain...but I will state that I've been having to top off the oil on a regular basis. That's been the case even before the smoke first appeared. I've not been tracking it closely to know exactly how much oil it's been consuming, but we're not talking a significant amount by any means. My wife says it was white smoke, but maybe I should have another go and confirm the coloring myself. Coolant level seems to not have fluctuated at all.

not a honda in either case and both turbo cars but I've seen the following on cars that I've worked on.
2002 VW jetta with a blown turbo seal & mobil 1 synthetic = James Bond *white* smoke when the turbo spooled. (Wife's car)
1993 FWD Turbo Talon with a bad crank case beather & Royal Putple = James Bond *white* smoke when the turbo spooled. (Friend's Auto-x project)
The smoke in both cases was pretty darn pale (no blue cast at all, a little green maybe in the Jetta's case) and didn't smell like coolant at all - get in there and sniff the exhaust...
Is there any chance you're blowing oil into you intake via the PCV or the valve cover breather under any circumstance.
I'd start by cleaning out the Oil separator ont he back of the block and replacing the PCV... especially if the coolant level doesn't change despite your problem.

Great suggestions, I'll do that. And I'm running Mobil1 5W30 Synthetic Oil with an OEM Honda filter BTW.

Re: (93_EH3)
Okay, so I pulled the PCV valve and rubber line attached to it. Here are the pics:
It appears pretty gummed up from carbon and whatever else.
So Honda part number 17130-PM6-003 is the VALVE ASSY, PCV and runs about $17 list. I'll call Honda of Tempe and pick one of those up this afternoon.
As far as the "oil separator", is this the same thing as the Oil Breather Chamber or perhaps the Oil Screen? I'm digging through my factory service manual and not finding anything labeled as such. Please advise. I'd like to be able to address this piece as well. Thanks.

Re: (93_EH3)
I'm gonna give credit where credit is due, this isn't my pic - it's actually out of this thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1199935
But, what I'm referring to as the oil separator is part of the PCV system on the back of the block. Hope the pic helps - it looks about the same on the back of a D-series. However, try just replacing the PCV valve first, you can easily go back in and see if the cannister is clogged or full of crap...

Re: (hades)
Thanks for the clarification - I came across that part after some digging on Majestic Honda Parts' site. This diagram depicts the Breather Chamber parts of the emission control system on the '92-95 Civc EX / Si.
So apparently you can remove that piece and clean out the buildup in there.
