Default White smoke at Higher RPMs

Hey everyone, I have recently dropped a 94 ls engine into a 93 vx hatch. I would be searching the forums right now but the search isn't working for me. It has recently started to smoke white and it smells something like coolant when I rev the engine high (6-7k). The exhaust looks clear when it idles and the car never overheats. I need to get a smog within the next few weeks so I was wondering if anyone thinks this thing will pass and what the culprit of the problem is. I recently read that too much oil can cause white smoke but I just changed the oil out for 4 quarts of 5w-30. Thanks.

I dont see it being a reason for you not to pass, but it sounds like a busted headgasket to me.

oil would give blue smoke, water gives white - sounds like a blown gasket

I dont think thats accurate, White is the presesnce of water, if rings were bad it would be oil. If your smoking white because your rings are bad, then you have some serioius motor problems, lol.

I wrecked a headgasket on my first car (89 sunbird) and it blew...well billowed white smoke out the exhaust. Seemed to happen as soon as I pushed the pedal.

bad headgasket. its probably antifreeze mixing with the oil and because of this, the burnt antifreeze=white smoke. i just ran into this problem with my ls. hope i helped some!

Remember to change your oil after you replace the headgasket. One of my stupid high-school mistakes was that I forgot to change it afterwords...antifreeze in the oil=the oil sitting on top of antifreeze in the oil pan. My motor ceased up and I shattered a rod. The pieces blew 2 buisness card size holes in my block. Bad news.

Thanks for all the replies. I figured I should be able to pass the smog test especially if they don't rev it to such high rpms. My oil looked pretty good when I just did the last oil change. I think it is a very minor leak in the headgasket. Does anyone know a ballpark price to have a headgasket, timing belt and waterpump change? I already have a honda waterpump and timing belt.

If you have the time, do it yourself. I don't like to trust people with my stuff unless I'm watching. You may have a couple extra expences though, gaskets and sealant I think, can't remember for sure.

No, actually I'm weary of dealing with the timing on these dual overhead cam engines so I haven't embarked on doing a headgasket or timing belt, etc. Anyways, I'm going to try to get this thing smogged first, then give it a shot or have it done (I know a guy who has done good work on my toyota 22re).
