whining noise on clutch release?
OK so I went with a freind to go look at a car today,
was a 96 dx hatch, all stock.
everything looked good, except it had this gnarly noise when you would let off
the clutch pedal in first and sometimes second.
basically right where the clutch grabs it would sound like a loud metallic scraping.
high pitched, like metal on metal sort of thing.
clutch still worked fine, car drove fine and everything, just that sound was the problem.
So we passed on the car,
but i'm still really curious as to what you guys think that was??
clutch problem, or tranny problem, or what?
thanks!

No, it really couldn't be, not if you actually read his post.
Noise when clutch is released: ISB
Noise when clutch is depressed: TOB

That's what I would have said.

i would think that if you have a bad throwout bearing, you would hear noise at around 2,000 rpm regardless of what gear you are in. someone correct me if im wrong.
