Where'd This Oil Come FROM??
OK. I popped my hood up today. and to my surprise, i found a nicely sized splatter of what seemed to be motor oil. It seems to be all over my transmission mount( the mount on the right side of engine bay obviously connecting the trans. to frame). I immediately checked both transmission oil as well as the oil in motor, both fine(just replaced 500 miles ago.) Now the only thing i can think of is i took out the A/C about a week ago. Took out everything (comp., condensor, evaporator, and drier plus all piping.) I'll post pics tomorrow. I had to go to work then. BTW do the motor mounts contain oil? i don't believe so but... And i checked it again and nothing seems to be spewing anything anymore. I'm just confused. tia, Mike D

Mounts are fluid filled, but I'm not sure about the fluid composition. Check your valve cover gasket for a leak on that side and look down around the pulley system to make sure oil isn't being slung out of a main seal or something of that nature. Probably just a glop of random ****, but always worth investigating.

Re: Where'd This Oil Come FROM?? (98Hatch00)
i tried to search before, found nothing. Now i saw a few posts down the driverside ek mounts always bust and leave a nice stain in there. Sounds like my problem. This is the first time im glad i payed extra for warranty. Mike D

Sounds like you popped a motor mount. They splatter ****, kinda like stepping on one of those single-serving catsup packs they give you with french fries. Usually by the time most ppl notice it, that 'oil' (or whatever it is) is dry and it really leaves them scratching their heads.
Anyway, from what you describe, it sounds like a bad motor mount IMHO...
