Where to start?
Hey all-
I'll admit it, I'm almost a complete noob when it comes to cars.
Here is what I would like to do:
94/95 del Sol, used for limited daily driving and occasional trips to the track with a friend who has started modding his Mustang.
I would like the del Sol to get somewhere between 250 and 270 whp.
Best advice for:
Book(s) to read first
Good info websites
Things to know/keep in mind
I'm reading the back posts on here currently, I go out to howstuffworks.com, and like to do research before I get started on a project. I've got no problem with the money side of it, just want to have a plan before I jump in.
Thanks all!
Aodhan

In order to pull that kind of whp your going to have to swap a b-series and turbo or supercharge. Details will have to depend on what exactely you want out of the car....auto cross, drag etc.

Re: Where to start? (95redcivicex)
Hmmm..
I guess I better refine the question a little bit.
Car will be a weekend/sport driver. Once or twice a month to a local speedway for 1/4 mile times and fun against some friends I have that have started modding.
Considering the car runs just over 2000 lbs (Up to around 2300 for the VTEC models), maybe I don't need quite that much whp. I'd like to run 13's, possibly in the high 12's for the quarter.
I'll keep looking through the back posts etc, as well. I'm sure some other fresh meat has asked similar questions many times.

Re: Where to start? (Mrfirefox)
I'm with MrFireFox for the easiest path to speed that you have deliniated- DelSol VTEC with a turbo.
You could, of course, buy a lesser DelSol and swap in a bigger/better motor (a 95 DelSol S with a 2000 ITR engine with a Kenji p28ECU would be KILLER with a mild turbo). However, this combo is going to be a tad more "quirky" than the stock VTEC.

Re: Where to start? (shawnhayes)
What books/manuals would be good to start with for reading? Or should I just drop in to the local performance store and start browsing the shelves?

I find most of the published books on what you are looking for is so out of date and generalized. You best bet is to use real-time souces like your very own account on H-T
Alot of good information is in here as well as some guys that will try to make suggestions and answer some good thought out questions.
Plus keep in mind that it isn't just the engine that makes a quick Honda, it takes alittle more than that.
