Where to set rev limit?
How high do you think I could rev, on a regular basis ,a D16Y7 (99 DX) sohc nonvtec head w/ stock valve train? It's on a D15B2 block. My buddy used to run his D16Y7 head to 9000-9500 rpm all the time. I figured 8000-8200 would be ok, but I figured I'd let others who have experience or knowledge give me there input. This is an all-motor project. My mods are listed in my signature. Head has a street/strip cam and i'm running for now a PG-7 89 teg ecu.
Thanks-Jason

Either go to a dyno to find out where to set it.
Or dont touch it. Its more on how long the rods can go without blowing through the block.

This is true. And believe me, you dont want to find out the hard way.

um, if its got a stock valvetrain and cam, the stock redline.
just because it can go to 9000 dosent mean it makes power at that high let alone be safe.

Unless you have something to make power that high, don't do it. Also, your stock valvetrain is going to destory itself in short order. Rev it to the stock redline if you have to.
On the otherhand, you sound like you just like to rev it, so what the hell, go for 10k on a stock y7. It's a great idea! You should call Honda and tell them that a stock y7 will rev to 10k and see how bad they laugh.

There is no point in revving a motor past where it quits making power. A stock d series is not making more power above the stock redline. Honda set it there for a reason. I find it hard to believe your friends motor lasted long at all if it were stock as well. If you want to turn 10k rpms, build a rotary.

Two words: stock redline
Its stupid to go higher for the following reasons:
1) You aint making no more power on stock internals
2) You'll just blow that shiet up
3) Do you really want to wait that long to shift?
4) The hype about revving to 10k is only good if its worth something. In your case, its not worth anything.

Re: (Kamin)
Honda sets the rev limiter low for people like you that think 9k is ok for a daily driver.

My D16Z6 redlined at @7200 (I think), but no power gain after/around 6800/6900.

especialy on the d's anything above the factory limit you will have to worry about valve float. also. a d without vtec will probably not make any power past around 6000rpm, so theres no advantage. i would say dont do it, its not worth it to risk blowing your motor up by just twisting too hard. but thats just my opinion.

go to the damn dyno no one can tell you here, going to the dyno is the only way to do it. and thats stupid to run an 89 teg ECU unless you have it rechiped or somthing
