Default where are the HT brains at? need help

so i just bought a 96 dx hatch with a gsr swap in it and i went to get it emission tested and when the connected there little plug under my driver side dash there computer would not communacate with my car. the worker said it might be a plug not connected or i was thinking that it might half to do with the fact its a newer motor in an older car... meaning it was an obd? problem. i really need to get my tags and this is the only thing keeping me from that. PLEASE SOME ONE SOLVE MY PROBLEM THANKSSSS

What year is the motor from? It could simply be that you have a motor from OBD1 days with a jumper harness going to an OBD1 ECU. Thus, in order to pass, you'd either have to get the motor OBD2 compliant, or swap an obd2 (obd2a for ease, 96-98 for Civic) motor in and pass with it.

A lot of cars overseas (including JDM cars) don't have the ability to be scanned with a machine like US OBDII cars can.

So the ECUs will never be able to give codes to a hand scanner.

I don't know all the differences between ECUs, but there should be a code on it. Also, the engine will usually be paired with certain ECUs. My understanding is H Motors sells all or mostly JDM engines and parts.

I don't think anyone here wants to tell you illegal ways to get around emissions or anything else.

So maybe we can stick to legal ways.

We already know this is in a 1996 Civic DX hatchback.

What engine do you have?

What ECU do you have?

american? scanners do and will communictae with jdm computers.
I have a p30 and i pulled codes/data out with a box snap on scanner.
See what ECU is in the car. it might be obd1 and the smog tech is entering it as a obd2. the pins form obd1 and obd2 on the data link connector are also diff. i believe.
gotta go, if no ones answers with a more cleaner answer i'll help tommarow

yes, but 95dxsir brought up a good point... check what ecu is running the car now and let us know.

I've never dealt with JDM ECUs, but everything I've seen from others who know better on here have said that JDM Computers don't communicate with pocket scanners. I don't mean jumping a code off the two pin connector. Of course they can do that.

The OP has a '96, so the DLC (unless changed) would be OBDII.

I believe the OP would like help now, if you could help him now.

1. You need a 96-99 Integra GS-R P72 OBD2A ECU

2. You will need to crank the car and possibly drive the car with this ECU and see what check engine codes it WILL throw

3. Likely you will need to wire up the CKF sensor trick, secondary oxygen sensor, and make sure your evap system is hooked up, and make sure you've got a catalytic convertor that works as three of these items are NOT present on the JDM swap you have, nor does the JDM ECU even look for any these items

Here is the CKF wiring trick you must do:

Click Here and Follow OBD2A instructions

You will also need to see what wires/pins must be in place for the secondary o2 sensor, and if your exhaust/convertor don't have the bung for one be prepared to visit an exhaust shop and have one welded in

Click Here to See What P Codes You Have and What They Mean

Click Here for Detailed OBD2A Pin-outs For Wiring

Credit goes to Katman for the pics and how-to I linked.

Hold up. Have you checked the fuses for the OBD connector? If a fuse is blown, it will not connect with the computer. Check that first

Sure check that even though it is a FACT that the JDM ECU will not communicate with the emisions equipment, nor will the car ever pass a smog/OBD inspection with a JDM ECU.

BTW why don't you tell him which fuse to check?
