Default Where does it go?

I have a 99 Si and there seems to be some question about where the tranny fluid goes. I have several different choices, all of them only recomending I use "Honda Certified" or "DOT apporved" fluid. None of them tell me what kind of honda or DOT fluid, just that I should only use it. How helpfull. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Use Honda MTL, you can get it at the dealers parts counter for around $5 a quart. You will need a little less than three quarts.

on the pasenger side of the trannt above the axle there is a big nut, this is where you fill the tranny. when the fliud starts coming back out you know its full. Do it on a flat surface.

are you changing the transmission fluid, or topping it off?

If you're changing it, you'll need to find the drain plug and get a drain pan. Plus you'll need some kind of funnel with a long tube. you can buy one at the parts store or make one like I did out of some silicone tubing and an old water bottle.

If you need to top it off, I'd be a little worried that you have a leak.

i always thought that was just the drain plug. you pour the fluid from the top of the tranny. there is a peice of metal piping( a lil small) with a rubber cap over it. this is where you would put the fluid in. un bolt the drain plug and start pouring the fluid and when you see fluid start to come back out of the drain plug then stop. it is full....and yah do it on a flat surface.

number 13 is the drain plug and 20 is the fill plug. The drain plug has to be removed by inserting a 1/4" socket driver and unscrewing.

To change the fluid do the following:

-remove fill plug (this allows air to enter tranny as you drain, like poking two holes in a can of Juicy Juice. flows smoother and faster.)

-remove drain plug (make sure you have a catch can!)

-after all fluid is drained, replace drain plug (the lower one)

-pour fluid into the fill hole (the top one) until it spills out.

-replace fill plug.

-wash hands

-drink beer.

edit: Forgot my service manual was in the car. glad I double-checked.

Thanks all. I was changing the fluid. My buddy actually shoved a pen tube into a funnel, and that seemed to work ok, took almost 1/2 hour, but hey it worked.

Not even a quart of fluid came out of the tranny when I drained it, I checked the exterior for possible leaks but couldn't find anything out of the ordinary, should I go get it checked out?

nah. don't worry about a leak. worry about why your tranny only took one quart.
