It's not hard, it's just dangerous. Do it yourself, or find somebody that's already done it and pay them.

Usually a garage will charge $300 + to do suspension work just because a spring can decompress and kill somebody.

Also, alignment shops aren't afraid of aftermarket suspension, ask around at a local parts store and see if someone wants to tackle it, they usually know who the best/coolest mechanics around are.

I would try it myself but i just dont think i could nor do i have the tools. Every wheel, tires, alignment place i have called has told me no, lol. My girls called a friend of hers that works at jiffly lube and he said he knows somebody that put them on his 240 and said he might be able to do it, so hopefully that'll work out. B/c i really dont wanna pay a couple hundred to get them installed, call me a cheapo if you want . thanks for the help also Plan B. and does anyone else have any suggestions or anything?

Naw bro you arent cheap just "thrift" as i like to call it. Best thing to do is get someone who has experience with them or any other coilover sleve for that matter. I tried doing springs and shox with no help and a 2 hour job turned out to be a 6-7 hour job for me

Get a friend all you need is some sockets and you can rent a springs compressor. If you can get acces to air tools that is a plus it will cut the install time in half! http://www.jdmfan.com has an install of springs check it out just to get an idea of what tools u need and such.

All you need is basic car knowledge and the tools i think you will need a 14mm and a 12mm and a 17mm not sure about that. Yep thats all you need. and ofcouse a spring compressor, unless you decided to open the shock at the curb.

if your car is lowered with springs it isn't difficult to switch to skunk2's. you would not need a spring to compress because lowering springs are pretty short.

Even if the car is on stock springs, you still don't need a spring compressor. I never hear of anyone doing it like this, but here's what I always do.

- Sit car on level ground where you're going to do the install
- Make sure you have everything you need to do the install
- With the car still on the ground, remove the retaining bolt off the top of the shocks that you want to do first (right-side, left-side, front or rear).
- Jack that side of the car up and the shocks/springs disassemble themselves.
- Remove the shock/upper hat from the car and reassemble everything with the new springs
- Reinstall on the car
- Repeat on the next half of the car.

It's not dangerous, and doesn't require a compressor. The only thing to remember is that once you raise the car and everything starts to come apart you can't sit the car back down. That's why you need to make sure you've got all the stuff you need ahead of time.

my and my friend did mine, none of us had experience but we just looked on the net for info. its pretty easy, if you do it yourself be careful uncompressing the spring . here are websites that i used. Also , since its your first time you might need a couple of hours. good luck.

me and my friends just use the impact and shoot the spring of into a trash can or box. it yanks the impact out of your hand when the nut finally comes off. and then everything is in the box or trash can. its not a real safe way to do it, but it works.

First of all thank you to everybody that has posted the helpful info. I have a few questions, Where can i rent a spring compressor and about how much do you guys think it'll cost aproximately? I went to the 2 import shops around town after i posted the question and calling lots of places, and both of them quoted like 4-6 hours at 45$-50$ an hour, so all together around 300$ for installation. One of the guys was like yea it'll take around an hour and half or so for each corner, i almost **** a brick, i didnt think it would take that long. As of now im trying to get ahold of some of my step-dads friends that are mechanics and crap and trying to see if they have a spring compressor i can borrow or if they know how to install them theirselves. If all goes bad as i suspect then i'll either by tring to get ahold of you dogpile5 or Plan B, lol. but once again thanks for all of the help guys, its greatly appreciated.

I went to O'Reilly's and you leave a deposit and borrow the spring compressor, then when you return it you get a full refund. So it doesn't cost you anything at all.

$300 for labor. Holy rip-off, Batman!!

Its not that hard......really!!

Yeah, good parts supply stores will rent cheap, not a high use item. I rented one $60 local in CA tho. But you can just take the sunroof tool from honda(to open maunally if it's stuck) it's and allen end that fits the top of the shock perfect. Take an open end wrench and start loosening till almost at the top. Then point the entire thing into a trash can on its side agaist a wall(the spring will sometimes launch the can) and finish disassembly. will pop into can, no lost parts, and putting it back together with your performance springs should be easy.

The sunroof tool is in your tool kit for the jack if you have a sunroof, of course.

A civic spring doesn't have the pressure to kill you. bruse yes. Just throw a towel over it and unbolt.

Here's the best way.

Take out the entire strut/shock assembly.

Place an electric or air powered gat (impact wrench) with a a socket on the end, then place the shock on the ground with the socket going into the retaining bolt on the top of the shock. Throw a towel over the whole thing, and have someone step on the other end of the shock. Then hit the button...when the bolt comes off the whole thing will push out on the persons foot but nothing violent, and almost no danger.
