I dont think that by cutting the shifter it will shorten the throw IMO
how else would you shorten the throw?

Why spend the money to have it cut and weld when you can buy one for about $35. Had mine generic one for over 3 years and no problems. (knock on wood)

w/ a real short shifter.
ive heard that the integra shifter has a shorter throw than the stock civic.
what do you think a makes *real* short shifter? fancy crome and a brand name? basicly its just a stock shifter with a shorter lengths.

actually you couldnt be more wrong. A short shifter compared to stock has a longer bottom section (below the ball). This makes for a different length from the fulcrum, and there fore the shorter u pull or push above the further it moves below. so, get u a short shifter!

Exactly. I had posted this idea a while ago. Most short shifters move the pivot up, but they also shorten the top height of the shifter as well- lowering the ****. This is what I didn't want. I wanted the shifter as close to the steering wheel as possible. Reach out to shift, not down.

by the time you pay to get it cut and welded to have a half-*** short shifter why wouldn't you just go to your local pep-boys or go on ebay or somthin and buy a generic one?

Cutting a shifter will only make the **** sit lower, but it does NOT shorten the actual throw.

I can't believe that people think that just cutting and welding a shifter will shorten the actual throw.

If you've ever compared a real short shifter to a stock one you'd see that the biggest difference is the distance from the pivot ball to the bottom bracket where the through-bolt goes in.

And as far as the Integra throw being shorter, I don't think so. Compare the two side by side and I'm pretty sure the Teg and Civic units have the same distance between the pivot ball and the bottom bracket. The difference would be very marginal.

the gs-r shifter does have a shorter throw and does look better. if you want to shorten the throw then get a gs-r or a real short shifter like c's. if your only going for the look of a short sitting shifter then cut and weld, but it looked cool back in the day, but felt sh*tty. i suggest the real thing rahter than a short sitting look that has no use besides looks. good luck!

This is like saying that you can lower your car with the same type of performance results by just cutting the factory springs or removing them altogether (sorry jessie)

You can Cut and weld a OEM shifter for shorter throws, but I wouldnt pay anyone to do this. I have done a few and all I did was cut about 1" below the pivot point and about 2" above the pivot point and flipped it around and re welded it. Putting the 2" part on the bottom. This is more of a thing to do at home then to go and pay someone to do it. I agree with the others if yuo cant do it yourself then get one at a Pep-Boys, Autozone, Oriely's or EBAY.

***NEWSFLASH***

The GS-R shifter doesn't even bolt into a Civic. The lower bracket is too wide for the Civic's shift linkage.

This requires you to ghetto-bend the Civic linkage to widen it to fit the GS-R shifter, which makes it feel like **** overall.

Have you even tried this before?

Either way it doesn't bolt straight in.

Do you not understand the concept of "bolt straight on" or something??

If you have to MODIFY it before you bolt it on, you can not describe the process, or any part of it as "bolting straight on."

If you have to MODIFY it before you bolt it on, it will NEVER EVER EVER just "bolt striaght on."

so if he cuts it and welds it shorter it still wont fit in a civic he has to cut the bottom sleeve shorter as ai said ealier

i agree with gsrrrr, at first, i wanted mine cut...for stock feel, but its way too much trouble...first you have to find someone who is willing to do it, then pay the fee, and cutting/re threading the shifter is a job where its not done right often...

i went with skunk2 single bend short shifter ... 124.99
love it.

You don't know what you are talking about. It will shorten the distance your hand travels. Just think about it. If you have a lever that is 8" tall from pivit to the top. Let say it traveled 3". It would make a pie shaped sweep. If you shorten the lever, the pie sweep is shorter.

Shut up.

You're an idiot because you don't even understand how a shifter works.
