Default Where to buy timing belt replacement parts?

Hi guys,

It's about that time to replace my timing belt for the first time and some of the stuff I need is timing belt, waterpump, some gaskets and what not, new accessory belts, you know, the usual.

Anyway, what my question is, where do you guys buy this stuff? From the dealership? I saw some nice little kits put together on ebay but I would be a little nervous running a timing belt off ebay. Where do you guys normally get this stuff?

Majestic Honda, google that. It's cheaper than buying local.
Since Honda OEM timing belts are made by Gates, I say go to O'Reilly and order one from there.

Check out Car Quest if you have them in your location. Car Quest stocks OEM parts. When I order stuff mid-morning, they usually have it ready by the afternoon. Majestic Honda is good place but usually their S&H is so damn high I've been better off just going to the dealership.

hmm, I'm just wondering what the dealership prices are compared to the o'reilly's prices. Kind of leaning towards that gates kit from o'reilly's. I don't have any car quest around my area though

I see two options these days for OEM timing belt job parts at an economical price:

1. Any online OEM dealer close to you. Consider: www.hondapartsunlimited.com (AZ); www.bkhondaparts.com (IL); www.slhondaparts.com (CA). Including shipping and handling of different online OEM stores usually results in there being little difference from one to the other.

2. Ebay is selling packages these days of OEM timing belt job parts and often at prices that beat the above by not a small amount.

Be aware that more and more dealers are adapting online mail order part sites as part of their business. For years now people have talked about how "at their dealer" they can go in with a printout of the online price and the clerk will give them this price. It is not true everywhere, though. Check your local dealer's web site and see if it has a parts section with prices comparable to those in 1. above.

Try out www.autopartsway.com, I bought ball joints from them, they have great selection of OEM and after market parts and the prices are good. They advertise lowest price guarantee, so check them out.

just make sure at least for the time belt, that it is a gates belt. you do not want to skip on the timing belt. oh, and just for insurance too, get a honda oem water pump. i remember when i worked at my bothers shop, some guy had a napa water pump. it bolted up but the water pump propeller was just a little bit to big. it looked like it seized up/got caught and caused the timing belt to snap off.

A broken timing belt can destroy your motor. Don't cheap out on it. Go to the dealer and buy an Oem timing belt, tensioner and water pump. It's worth every cent to know it's the one Honda intended to be on there. And if the parts are too expensive, imagine the cost of a new motor if a cheap timing belt you saved money on slips or snaps.
