Default When replacing valve cover gasket, do you need hondabond?

Hey guys I just took the valve cover off of my newly purchased b18b. I noticed that on the corners and certain points there was a dried up crap.. It looked like it was some type of liquid gasket. I'm guessing it was hondabonda because this motor is straight from japan off an AT integra, and I doubt the person did it themselves. Probably came like that from honda.

So is this stuff indeed hondabond, and do I need to apply it when I replace it? or am I fine without it?

You can use Honda bond when putting the valvle cover back on. But only put it on the bends by the ends of the cam. Where the gasket makes the semi-circle. But do not apply it to the rest. And be careful when you are tightning it down the studs like to break.

Yes, you can use Honda bond or whatever liquid gasket you can find...

Like mentioned above, apply it only on 4 corners and places where the gasket bends...

And do not overtorque...

I used some Valvoline liquid gasket crap from the nearest store and it holds perfectly for 40.000 miles since my timing belt change...

yep, just use some liquid gasket. I bought some at Murray's that listed the same Honda number as my manual as an equivelant.

The torqued spec for the valve cover bolts is 7 ft/lbs. Don't over torque or they could break.

I just used the black RTV / gasket maker from the auto parts store. It's pretty much the same stuff.

that's cool... and you guys wouldn't recommend re-using a valve cover gasket.... would u? I've done it a couple times before on my single just to see how things were down there and then close it back up- no problems.

since we're on the liquid gasket topic- Does anyone know if i'm supposed to apply liquid gasket to the space in between the tranny and block?

nope, don't need it there. There isn't any fluid or anything there to need it. Just make sure the surfaces are clean and put them back together.
