Default when purchasing a slavaged car what....

I am considering purchasing a Slavaged title car and I am clueless as to what i will have to do to drive it/owm it legally for highway use.

The cars was a theft recovery. The theives stole the swap. clipped abunch of wires, and left the engine bay gutted. I plan to get the car and repair it (reminder, notbody damage) what problems will i have getting it registerd, isured, and driveable.

the title reads speedometer mileage "broken" BUT I will swap in an EX or SI cluster.

what will be the orignal mileage for the car? what the DX cluster reads 38K

check your state laws. Some states will not, no matter what, allow a car with a salvage title history back on the roads. Some states will allow it back on the road but you'll never be able to sell it (well at least for several years). that's generally what happens...

most people buy salvage cars for parts or to convert to race cars.

if that's the case then it will probably be that you just won't be able to resell it after it's back together. I would still highly suggest you give your highway department a call to find out your state laws, etc regarding those types of vehicles. I know in south carolina where I'm from, that if you try to resell a salvaged car your *** can go to jail and the car can be taken and crushed. Yet, in florida you can fix them and resell them all day long so long as you can prove the car is structurally sound.

Almost every state has a rebuilt/salvage inspection that has to be completed for the car can be driven on the road. Contact your local DMV and find out.

My sister didn't check the vin of the civic she just bought and she got into a minor fender bender. The INS was acting shady saying they had to investigate previous work done on the car. The guy she bought it off of bought off some punk on the south side of town that had a salvage title buolt in FL and brought it back to GA for sale.

I believe you have to have a certified person do the rebuilt/certification process.
In illinois at least, its a pain in the ***, but doable, just be prepared when all your hard work rebuilding the car, that the insurance company will tell you they will only insure half the worth......

I salvage title.

Why pay $12k for a clean title LS, when you can get a super clean salvage GSR for under $5k, provided that you do all the repairs yourself?

I wouldnt buy another salvage car unless I had no street legal use for it.
State laws are too hazy or strict to make it worth your time, and KBB knocks the value way down.

Just watch out for frame damage. That can suck.
