when to change timing belt?
I searched for the topic and ended up wtih a lot of threads on how to install but I just need to know exactly when I should. I read some topics saying around 100,000 miles. I checked the manual and it says 60,000. Im driving a stock 00 civic with a y7 BTW. I've heard different stories. Some friends say do it at 60,000 and some say wait til 100,000. I personally don't know. Any help would be great. Thanx in advance.

i'm way past it, at about 69,000. I've heard of people delaying it way past that. I'm not trying to, just wondering what others have done.

i changed mine at 137,000, which is very very dumb, i was the third owner and had the car for a few years before i started to read up here and learn, "the right and the wrong"

i coulda sworn 90k was the norm to do water pump and timing belt. i dont see why you would have to do it at 60k unless you did have some extreme weather conditions.
-edit-
how ever it is better to be safe then sorry. if its all beat on and you think it needs new belts have your car checked out at a shop. personally im at 79 almost 80k and i havent done mine yet. maybe next year but then again i could just swap in a new motor for the same price.

lol there ya go. im in a 95 dx. i dont know too many people with cars made this decade. i was just thinking in general you change them around that 90-100k point. I know in my old escort beater i had to change the timing belt at 90k

Re: when to change timing belt? (dividedas1)
thanks everyone, this was super helpful. i failed to see that asterisk that pointed to harsh conditions. I'll wait til 90,000. although my sedan is daily driven, its pretty well taken care of (garaged every night, too haha.) this is a big relief. for a second i thought i was gonna have to shell out a good amount of cash. thanks again.

wouldn't weather play a big part of when a timing belt needs to be done? Here In AZ i've heard of service people say that because of the HEAT some DEALERS recommend changing it earlier than expected...
maybe it's a sales gimick.. but it makes sense to me

Re: when to change timing belt?
well maybe you'v herd this allready but iv done my timing belts on my cars at 60,000. do what you think is good for you.. some people beat on there cars so they do it earlyer than they should just for to be save... but if you are going to change the tm belt then just go a head and change the water pump while your at it...

Re: when to change timing belt? (stock-gsr)
105 is the recommendation, i have the y8 and it's the same...i did mine at 85 just to be safe..I dunno about you but i'd rather spend a $150 or so on a new timing belt and water pump now then have a few bent valves later down the road. Do the water pump while ya got that part of the engine open too

I was not sure about mine so I changed it at 72k miles, the old belt did not look bad but now I know for sure I will never have to worry about it again.
