When buying used rims
Goin to check out a set of rims in a couple days...
Any suggestions on what I should look closely for besides scratches? I will be an hour from home so I dont need any hassles once i get them back here
Thanx for the help,

Make sure there is no cracks, and that the lip of the rim is in perfect condition.
any alterations in the lip of the rim could cause very serious problems when mounting a tire or riding with them on the car.

if they have tires, then throw them on and get up to 60 mph on the highway. See if they're wobbly, balanced, etc. Also check and make sure the tires are full of air- if not, there is probably a leak.
If just looking at rims, check as stated above and just overall appearance. You can tell if they kept care of their stuff or not just by looking at their house too- sad but true.

take them to a tire shop and have them balance the rims.make sure you watch them do it,to make sure they are not bent.i work at a tire shop and i get alot of wheels in that look straight but they are bent.hth

Well i am meetin the dude in a parkin lot, and they have no tires but i know he just seperated some tires .......so i dont have a shop to take them to i will have to go by his word and get his address and stuff maybe
another question: Another DUMB question actually: Should the rim have the valve stem stickin out of the hole already? I never checked out rims or tires really closely seperated so how does the valve stem actually function??
thanx guys alot!!

A makeshift way of checking if the wheels are true is by jacking up a corner of your car, mount the wheels on your hub *hand tightent the lugs) and spin the wheels by hand.
No, you should get new valve stems every time you buy new tires.
