Default Wheel and Tire Weight?!?

I have 16 x 7 Wheels with Falken Ziex ZE-502 M+S size 205/40R-16. One wheel with tire weighs 36Lbs. Is that a lot of weight for a 16" wheel and tire? I am looking into possibly getting new wheels and DEFINITELY new tires. I am just curious as to what is a good looking wheel that not everyone has that is fairly lightweight.

Also does it really matter what speed rated tire I get? I was looking at the Falken Aziens. They have both V and Z speed rated, obviously Z being faster.

Im running SSR comps. In a 16x7 they weigh 11.2 lbs. For autoX my falken's are V rated.

Depends on how fast you plan to go, and for how long. That's the real reason for speed ratings.

Depends on where I am going... if I am driving down to LA than I will be sustaining speeds of 80-100+mph for almost 5 hours. I looking at this in terms of a racing standpoint for when I go to the track.

If you're talking drag tracks, then no the speed rating won't matter. Going for a road coarse? Then get the highest speed rated tire you can get.

I plan on doing both drag, and road course, but for the drag I will have slicks. Just looking for a good road/street tire, and a lightweight wheel.

You might want to try the JAX light. It's a light wheel, not overly popular, and relatively cheap. Put falken Azennis on them. (Ok, good combo, except in the wet - although its traction isn't great in the rain, it isn't horrible either).

Hmmm. Researching it, the Jax only comes in a 15 (not 16's), but its here anyway:
