Default Wheel offset? can someone explain???

hey guys, ive checked out wheels here and there, and the word offset has shown up. Can anyone in simple terms explain to me what that means and give examples: for example, +40 offset, also does anyone know the bolt pattern on the eg civic?, what about the gsr, 94+ bolt pattern? All in all i formed this thread because i saw some nice speedmaster sm-046 matt black wheels, it has 4 holes, +40 offset, i wanted to know if this would fit the eg, what about an eg with gsr brake upgrades? oh ya, what is PCD? God bless the person who can answer all of my questions, lol, thanks guys, i didnt really want to search, because im not even sure what im saying, so its kind of hard to seach.
thanks

most, if not all hondas that have 4 lugs are 4x100. This means you have 4 wheels studs, and they are spaced 100mm.

A +40 offset 4x100 rim WILL work for your civic.

The lower the offset number, the more the rim will stick out. A +35 offset rim will stick out 5mm more than +40offset rim.

The rims you mentioned will fit over a GSR brake conversion,

The width of the wheel is also important .. i have some 15" Kosei K1's with a +45 offset, but a 7.5" wide rim. That equals = the inside (lip) of my rims rubs on my control arm in the back, but a little grinding fixed that.

"The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel"

word of advice when buying your wheels!
1. between +40-+45 offset is ideal for hondas
2. unless you have a powerful honda dont get a wheel that is more than 6.5" wide.
3. if you do have a gsr brake upgrade anything lower than 15" will not fir over it!

the offset is the distance the wheel comes off of the hub for caliper clearance issues mostly like front 300zx wheels in the front need a lot of offset inside the wheel for clearance of the factory four piston caliper
