Wheel Bearing

How do you know your wheel bearing is going bad? What's the sound it makes? How do I check if it's going bad?

Bump. I just started hearing this weird humming noise that seems to be coming from the driver's side when my window is down.

when you take a turn the noise should be louder.. it will sound like a grinding noise

or if you have azenis on with stock exhast and muted stereo http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

if you start turning and you hear a grinding noise, and check it when the car is on the ground, just try to wiggle the wheel, you'll be able to tell if it's going bad

i don't have a press to work with, but how much would this cost to get fixed. i know i'll probably need to replace my passenger-side front soon

When I replaced my brake rotors and bearings on my Accord which is hub-over-rotor making it a PITA I just took the knuckle assembly to a machine shop and had them disassembly everything and reassemble it all. Tokk them like an hour and cost me 25 a side. Well worth it IMO. But if you take just your bearing/hub assembly in with the new bearing it'll probably be much cheaper since they don't have to do so much work.

Yup, it sounds like a very loud howling tire sound. I had to blast the stereo to drone out the sound on the highway. Just had both of my fronts changed about a month ago...no more annoying sound and no more looseplay in the steering.
