Re: whatz your dream???? (Lil Cs Zc)
Here's a copy and paste from CSI Where someone asked the same question, but regading an Si, and I wrote this.
Everytime I see someone driving an Si, I ask myself, why??? Some peoeple want a reliable normal car. Other people are enthusiasts and want to go fast, look good, and handle well.
Those are the people that give me brain farts. Here's my reasoning. Let's say the average Si owner has rims, springs, i/e/h, and shocks. OK So.. $17,000 + 1000 + 1000 + 400 + 250 = 19,650.
So for nearly 20k dollars they have a mid 15-second car, that looks ok, handles, ok, and doesn't do much else...
Here's my Hybrid Honda dream
-Junker EG - $1000
-Gut the interior completely, drop the motor, leave it a bare shell. Get a roll cage installed $500
-Take it to the paint shop, and get everything made perfect! Get all the dents taken out, and a bad-*** paint job $3000
-Install complete ITR 5-lug $2000
-Fiber Images CF lip - $300
-Fiber Images CF hood - $450
-Fiber Images CF duckbill - $250
-Vision mirrors - $250
-Kg/mm drop springs - $300
You know have a Pimp!!! EH with a stiff *** chassis, bad-*** suspension, bad-*** brakes, brand new paint, perfect body, carbon fiber everything, pimp exterior, pimp wheels...it's just perfect waiting for a swap.
So far your out $8000
That leaves you with $12,000 on motor!
Soooo..
Block
-LS Block $400
-Golden Eagle Sleeved $600 (group buy)
-Custom J&E Pistons $500
-Eagle Rods $325
-GSR Crank girdle $200
-Bore, hone, balance, hot tank, etc $150
-Fresh bearings $150
-Seals, gaskets, etc $50

-B18c1 head $500
-Portflow headwork (deshrouding, spotfacing, port and polish, valvejob, ferrea SS valves, portflow valve train $1200
-STR intake manifold $700
-Bored throttle body $150
-Fuel rail $65
-990cc Injectors $350

-SFP Race manifold - $500
-Garrett 60-1, thick shaft, p-trim, .70 a/r $750

-Gauge Pod $40
That's a total of $11,510 on the motor and getting it running perfectly an reliably. That leaves you $500 to get a nice clutch. When you get some cash buy a flywheel and quaiffe.
So, for the price of an Si with MINOR mods you cah have a Hybrid that will weigh 2100lbs, handle like a bear, brake like a champ, look completely gorgeous, have perfect paint and body, make over 500whp, and run mid to low 10's in street trim + slicks.

Re: whatz your dream???? (JV)
y forgot shocks boss..
trust me, when u actually do it..it ends up coming to way more. think of labour on some of the parts installed, dyno time to tune the beast, maintanence costs to oil change it every 2-3000km, etc.
don't get me wrong..i love ur reasoning, but trust me..if it was that simple, i wouldnt be in so much debt lol

Re: whatz your dream???? (MaxBoost)
basically just someones opinion...personally, i would never want to have my primary means of transportation being a bare shell with a rollcage...but thats just me. now for a track or race car...yeah that sounds great, but im not going to drive my girlfriend around in a gutted race prepped car. when i bought my Si, it was somewhat of a compromise of the few options i had...i liked the civic base model, ive owned a few before, i knew i could buy an older model and drop a motor in...but im sorry, i dont have 10k cash in hand to work on my car, while most of the time is spent in the garage being repaired/fixed/whatever. the title of your reply should have been more along the lines of..."my dream of a race car, while i have a high paying job, and an extra car on the side, and 2 really good mechanic friends."

most banks wont give you 20g's ona personal favor, thats why most people dont go that route, but it is a better choice if you have 25 grand in savings.

Re: whatz your dream???? (On Point EK)
At least the B18c5's aren't winning the poll right now. Just about everyone i know thinks that there just the bets out there, well don't get me wrong they might be stock but try against a built b20/vtec, or even a built gsr, its all the same in the end except for the b20, casue there is no replacement for displacment.

You cant finance a $20,000 EG project. If i had $20K cash then i would have gone that route, but i make payments on my baby. I dont make enough at one time to drop that much cash on a car.
Its a nice idea, but you really have to take this other stuff into consideration-- another example would be resale value: good luck getting most of what you put into a project like that.....whats valuable to you usually isnt worth **** on the market.
As far as my dream car ---
Probably a:
2002 BMW M3
1998 CW ITR w/ JDM frontend and built N/A
and maybe a Mustang Cobra R thrown in for good measure

Dude, I am glad that you got rid of that CF intake crap. The CAI in chrome is MUCH BETTER! I admire you, not for what you did to your car, but for the real reason, I mean...you are the coolest and your wallet must be really heavy, did I mention I could carry that for you? I am really strong! http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292256213
