okay well i met this guy that says he's a master mechanic and have been working on car for 10+ years and for the dealerships for awhile now. He says he can reflash just about any car from 88-07 and tune them on the streets. He says he just tweaks a few things in the ecu and then uses a $6000 snap-on equiptment. i ask him how it compares to an engine management, user capability wise, and he said that engine management is like kid stuff in comparison?? im not sure what kind of cars this guys been working on in the past but he'll be doing this to his ef b16 turbo civic real soon. His setup is very homemade utilizing check valves for boost.....and im not sure what else he's running but definitely nothing fancy or high tech. I dont know a ton of detail about tuning but i question this technique, but then again im not sure. I need some opinions cause if it works then i'll think about doing the same thing to my gsr ek.

ummm, as far as i know, "re-flashing" is a method of tuning obd2 cars, some companies make programs for cars and you re-flash them at home with a 300$ re-flasher or w/e, i see it mainly on trucks tho, and deisels seem to benefit the most from it....

i was thinking there may be a lot of pitfalls to this method otherwise, if it was that easy and cheap to tune modified cars then everyone would be doing it? keep the inputs coming on this though. I'll watch this guy tune his setup and see if it really works as well as he says. Nonetheless i'll take my aem ems over his so called superior method. Just need to tune my all motor b18c for better gas mileage. it gets 25mpg highway!! compared to 29 mpg on my 445hp civic.

haha he prob is......he says he's done it many time already and recently to a turbo probe and says it barely gets any traction after his tune. I was just curious if anyones familiar with this method. Also he said all dealerships do this to some extent when you bring your car in for maintenance. Anywho, watching his ef run afterwards will tell me more.

I am somewhat familiar with "reflash" my buddy has an evo he does it on...from what i got out of it it seems like its NOT what you want if its Mpg your looking for or even for your daily driver...My buddy says that what happens is his mechanic will hook some electronic up to his car which makes his car run at maximum power with what is available...He told me it basically maxes out the ECU's settings such as basemaps, fuel, and whatnot...but this guy i know is one of those "Evo Guys" who all he wants to do is kill anything on wheels lol ...so unless you race alot it may not be smart, id just stick to the EMS...but hey if it looks good to you then your the only one who can make the decision
