I think maybe I over-estimated your ability on 'getting' the Illumination wire, as I missed this thread before answering it, no worries.
You're looking for a switched +12v source. When the ignition key is 'on', the particular wire you're looking for will have +12v on it....thus supplying it to the radio only then.
Then you've got a memory wire, right? That needs to go to a non-switched source because if it got switched off, your radio presets would be gone after you turn the car off every single time.

ok, radio wires. You have three main wires for your radio to work. First you have ablack wire. this is your ground. Next you have what should be a yellow wire. this is a constant feed wire(always has current flowing to it, it allows your presets and what not to be there eveytime you turn your radio back on), and then you have a red wire. This wire is a switced 12 volts (only power when you turn the key on). This tells the radio to turn on.
