What's missing/wrong with this engine?
Hey HT.
This is an engine bay to a 1996 civic coupe ex.
It has a d16y8.
I'm going to purchase this vehicle tomorrow and would like to know what you guys think about it? It has 113k original miles.
Can you guys spot anything wrong or missing?
It looks great to me. Very clean and everything untouched.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks a lot!!

Thanks for answering the question. But I will obviously physically inspect it to make sure everything is in order before purchasing. Should have wrote that this is a vehicle I may be purchasing tomorrow.

It may look all nice and tidy underneath the hood but have you bothered to look elsewhere....say under the car? It could be a flood damaged car for all we know.

I'm wondering why the transmission VIN plate is missing - I see the two empty holes where the factory rivets secure the VIN plate to the casing.
Only valid reasons:
- Transmission is brand new from Honda (doubtful)
- Transmission was remanufactured from a legit company who removes the plate (some reputable companies do this)
Other than that it could be a red flag. I'd ask the seller if engine/transmission are original. If the seller says engine/trans are original they are LYING as there's no reason to remove the VIN plate.
What the factory plate looks like:
What a brand new tranny from Honda looks like with no VIN plate from factory:
Time to ask what's the deal y0.

Nice info. I've never seen one of those plates before, lol

A compression test sounds like a great idea, but good luck getting a seller to let you actually DO one. I'll be honest - if I'm some normal dude I don't want you taking my spark plugs out to do a compression test, and risk cross-threading the plugs back in, etc.
If you get the seller to agree to take the car to a reputable shop to do a compression test (among other checks for standard maintenance items) then I could see it being more of a reasonable request.

x2 on the compression test - rent the tool from AutoZone if you have a chance. Also, stick your head under the front tires and check the ball joints / tie rod ends / CV axle boots / oil pan / anything else you can see for damage or wear. Take a close look at the motor mounts - all 5 of them if you can.. if you bring a 10mm wrench with a long extension you can take the airbox off to better see the passenger side and rear ones. It looks pretty damn clean under the hood though. What are you paying? Is it 5-speed or auto? Good luck!

And if by "it looks untouched" you mean some kid wanted a red valve cover but bought the wrong spray paint and painted it purple you would be right, get under it and see what the front k member looks like, lift up the carpet in the truck and see if anyone has tried to *** rape it with their car. I could post a oicture of my spotless old b18 in my old teg that had 2 bent rods but you would never know from the picture
Also........its missing a cam hahahaha I had to say it

X2 on the a/c line. I myself always pressure was the engine bay and the entire car before trying to sell it so just cuz it looks clean doesn't mean it is.

It's a D series. They didn't all come with a VIN plate in the US. My 98 DX, for example, has the original factory motor and transmission, but no VIN plate.
